    The university Campus Safety Officer serves to assist higher leadership and is responsible for the general protection of the community and the campus facilities. The officer may serve as an on-site supervisor or watch commander and will patrol the campus to pro-actively remove opportunities for crimes to occur.  This is an emergency response position and at any time there may be a need to immediately respond to security, safety, life-threatening, or other urgent situations.  The university Campus Safety Officer must be flexible to be assigned any shift, based on the needs of the department, which could include working holidays and weekends.

     

    REQUIRED EDUCATION

    • High school diploma. 15 units of college coursework preferred.
    • Required certification: Guard card, tear gas, collapsible baton, 1st aid, CPR, and AED.
    • The guard card, CPR, 1st aid, and AED must be in possession at the time of hire.
    • Tear gas and collapsible baton certification are required within the 1st month of employment.

     

    REQUIRED EXPERIENCE

    • Must have no criminal record.  
    • Must possess a current CA driver's license.
    • Previous college and/or university campus safety/security/law enforcement experience preferred or equivalent on the job experience.

    PRIMARY DUTIES/ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

    • Patrols university property, in a vehicle or on foot, to provide security and traffic control. 
    • Performs physical security checks of campus facilities, ensuring facilities are in used by the appropriate personnel.
    • Responds to emergency and non-emergency radio calls.
    • Be available and ready at any point while on duty to respond to community needs.
    • Observes, reports and identifies persons involved in suspicious activities or manners. Ensures that unauthorized persons leave the university and community.
    • Enforces university policies, regulations, and municipal, state, and federal laws. Assists local law enforcement as necessary.
    • Conducts thorough investigations as assigned and completes detailed reports as to those investigations.
    • Participates in crime prevention programs.
    • Performs other duties as deemed necessary under the guidance of the Executive Director, via Chain of command.

    • Ability to work shift assignments as required by the department, which could include working holidays and weekends.

    • Ability to gather data, compile information, and prepare reports.

    • Must possess and maintain a clean and valid California Driver’s License.

    • Possess the physical strength to restrain, control and handcuff a combative person.
    • Be able to adjust to varied work shifts.

     

    VISUAL DEMANDS

    • Computer monitor and reading.

    TECHNOLOGIES

    • Proficient in Google Applications, Microsoft Office, Word, and Excel.

     

    COMPENSATION

    • Grade 6: $17.72-$23.03/hourly
    • Salary will be commensurate with qualifications, experience, and internal equity.

    REQUIRED EDUCATION, SKILLS, AND EXPERIENCE:

    • Must be a U.S. Citizen with an active DoD Secret Security clearance and be capable of obtaining a Common Access Card

    • High school diploma or equivalent

    • Minimum of ten (10) years of general hands-on Mechanical experience with US Navy HM&E equipment, including three (3) years on LCS HM&E equipment.

    • Four (4) years of experience directing or supervising a work force of skilled technical personnel in the performance of repair and maintenance functions.

    Ability to pass PQS 301 Craftsmen qualifications

    Looking for multiple candidates with expertise in the areas of:

    • Parasense Model 3300RM2 Refrigerant Leak Monitoring System
    • Valves and Valve Operators
    • Motor Operated Valves
    • Air Conditioning Units, Self-Contained 
    • Ship Service Refrigeration Plant R-404a 
    • Manual Operated Valves (LCS Class)
    • Auxiliary Sea Water Systems (LCS CLASS)
    • Medium-Pressure Air Compressor (SAUER) 
    • Systems covered in previous column

    Candidate shall be proficient using general and special purpose tools and test equipment to perform organizational level maintenance.

    Demonstrate a working knowledge of Navy preventive maintenance program.

    Demonstrate regularly using accepted current instrumentation for diagnosing equipment.

    Ability to communicate effectively in writing and orally

     PREFERRED EDUCATION, SKILLS, AND EXPERIENCE:

    • U.S. Navy technician skills and training
    • U.S. Navy LSC Class mechanical shipboard experience

    • Regular physical activity to include walking, climbing stairs, and standing; frequent periods of prolonged sitting may be required.
