Job Title: Non-Qualified Mortgage (Non-QM) Underwriter

Salary Range: $80,000 – $120,000 (based on experience and qualifications)
Job Overview:
An opportunity is available for a skilled Non-QM Underwriter to support the evaluation and decision-making process for non-agency mortgage loans. This role is centered around assessing borrower profiles, verifying documentation, and ensuring that loans meet internal guidelines and investor standards. Candidates must bring precision, a deep understanding of non-QM products, and the ability to navigate complex borrower scenarios.
Key Responsibilities:
- Underwriting: Assess and underwrite non-qualified mortgage loan files, including borrower credit, income (including self-employment and bank statements), assets, and collateral.
- Documentation Analysis: Thoroughly review all submitted documents such as credit reports, tax returns, appraisals, and bank statements to ensure completeness and accuracy.
- Risk Analysis: Perform manual underwriting and risk assessment on unique loan structures not eligible under agency guidelines.
- Guideline Compliance: Stay current on industry regulations and internal underwriting criteria to ensure compliance throughout the loan lifecycle.
- Decision Support: Make underwriting decisions, offer clear conditions, and provide a rationale for exception handling where applicable.
- Team Collaboration: Communicate effectively with loan officers, processors, and other stakeholders to facilitate smooth loan operations and solutions for challenging files.
Qualifications:
- Experience: Minimum of 4 years in mortgage underwriting, with at least 2 years focused on non-QM products.
- Product Expertise: Strong knowledge of non-traditional loan products, including asset depletion, DSCR, and bank statement programs.
- Analytical Ability: Demonstrated experience conducting income analysis for self-employed borrowers.
- Tech Skills: Experience with LOS platforms and electronic document systems.
- Communication: Clear, professional written and verbal communication skills, with a customer-first mindset.
- Detail Orientation: Strong organizational skills and accuracy when analyzing documents.
