    Position: Library Assistant

    Reports to: Director of Library Services

    Schedule: Part-time (8 hours per week)

    Pay: 20.00 per hour

    Responsible for ensuring access to print and digital collections through electronic resources management at Noorda-COM Library. This position will oversee the cataloging and inter-library loan components within the department, as well as supporting the learning services operations of the Noorda-COM Library. The successful candidate will have an orientation towards student success, ensuring academic achievement, building collaborative partnerships, and contributing to institutional service activities; fulfilling duties to further the mission of the department and college by participating in student education, scholarly activities, and service.

    RESPONSIBILITIES: 

    1.     Staffs the physical library presence at Noorda College of Osteopathic Medicine

    1.1.      Acts as a communications point person on behalf of the library department

    1.2.      Work set hours at a front facing desk

    1.3.      Creates and affixes signage within the library space as necessary

    1.4.      Checks out library materials to library patrons

    1.5.      Assists Director in providing formal and informal usage indicators of library space

    1.6.      Document library reference interactions, escalate as necessary

    1.7.     Assists with copy cataloging and physical processing of print items

    1.8.      Stays abreast of product developments, changes to subscribed resources, and communicate to Noorda-COM community as necessary

    2.     Assists with the management of the library’s digital presence

    2.1.     Assists with fulfilling interlibrary loan requests

    2.2.     Assists with management of electronic resources: communicate with vendors and      respond to notifications

    2.3.      Routinely downloads and collates electronic resource usage statistics

    2.4.    Ensures the integrity of the library’s database of bibliographic records by assisting the Technical Services Librarian in regular maintenance on bibliographic records to clean up records and improve accuracy

    2.5.        Assists the Technical Services Librarian in reconciling curricula specific links for student and faculty ease of use

    2.6.   Works effectively as a team member of the library department, including potential opportunities for programming, internal and external communications, and a natural interest and curiosity to the innovative potential of libraries; contributing to a climate hospitable to creativity and innovation. 

    3.     As relates to the department, actively engages in the advancement of the College

    3.1.        Builds collaborative partnership opportunities across and among various entities participating in networking opportunities, [internal and external partners [elected officials, state constitutional officers, business and community leaders] other colleges and universities, hospitals, local organizations, societies, etc.] promoting relationships with the College.

    3.2.     Refers to and coordinates in advance with the Communications team in the Office of the President on all media contacts, communications, and/or interactions to include message, promotion, etc. in which asked to serve as an official representative, content expert, or spokesperson on behalf of the College

    3.3.     Coordination in advance with the Communications team in the Office of the President on all Noorda-COM related legislative issues to include contact with the national, state, and local government officials, in which asked to serve as an official representative, content expert, or spokesperson on behalf of the College

    3.4.    Serves on various committees and teams within the College as assigned (attending meetings, contributing to discussions, sharing/exchanging information, and leading constituents toward goal attainment) to include advising and mentoring (Students, clubs, campus organizations)

    3.5.       Contributes to College’s compliance with and in the development of required documentation as related to accreditation of the College to which departmental content is contributed (faculty adequacy model, gathering data, self-assessment, peer review, providing input/feedback, etc.) aiding in the attainment of academic compliance.

    3.6.  Participates in the production of various College materials [academic calendar, strategic planning, directory, College website, etc.] (collecting/preparing materials, organizing/formatting data, adhering to various deadlines, reviewing drafts, providing input/feedback, etc.).

    3.7.    Contributes to the College’s reputation/image of being one of the best osteopathic medical colleges (monitoring outcomes, partnering with internal and external stakeholders, modifying techniques, etc.).

    3.8.        Is knowledgeable of and remains in compliance with all institutional policies and procedures as outlined in the Employee Handbook for Noorda-COM.

    4.     Contributes to team effort by performing other duties as needed/assigned. 

    QUALIFICATIONS: 

    _Education:       _Bachelor’s degree. US citizenship or permanent residency is required. 

    Experience:     Two (2) years of experience in a customer service role is required. Library experience is preferred.

    Preferred qualifications

    ·       Experience with library products, such as ILS, ILL, and discovery products.

Ability to contribute to a comfortable learning environment necessary to maintain a dynamic curriculum with a vision for growth.  Must have the ability to work diplomatically and effectively with a variety of internal and external constituents.  Proven track record of quality, integrity, and trustworthiness. Ability to make common sense, evidence-based decisions. Comfort with flexibility and change in an innovative environment.
