Noorda-College of Osteopathic Medicine (Proposed) Biomedical Sciences Faculty Overview: The proposed Noorda College of Osteopathic Medicine is seeking qualified candidates for full-time Biomedical Faculty positions in Anatomy, Physiology, Biochemistry, Microbiology/Immunology, Pharmacology, and Pathology. These roles fulfill duties to further the mission of the Department of Biomedical Sciences and the College by participating in student education, student counseling, scholarly activities, and service. Faculty members are encouraged to conduct original research/scholarly activities and pursue extramural funding in their areas of interest. Summary of Responsibilities:

1. Serves as an educator ensuring the quality, integrity, and defined standards within faculty’s discipline. 1.1. Develops and delivers content in Biomedical Sciences. 1.2. Ensures teaching is current and appropriate for the context of the curriculum and increases student understanding of subject matter. 1.3. Provides curricular structure and experiences that integrate emerging knowledge with practical longitudinal clinical experience, aligning curriculum and process to prepare learners for the fast-paced evolution of biomedical advances. 1.4. Works effectively as a team member to enhance and improve curricula, including potential opportunities for collaborative efforts within the department or with outside individuals, programs, or departments; maintaining a climate hospitable to creativity and innovation. 1.5. Develops and maintains a working knowledge of various teaching and assessment approaches (small group, bedside teaching, mentoring, lecture, independent practice-based learning, evidenced based medicine approach, simulation including institutional simulation, online learning and interactive video scenario, standardized patient). 1.6. Provides effective, active support as advisor and mentor (students, pre-doctoral fellows, post-graduate residents/fellows, and /or faculty-peers, clubs, societies and organizations), and fulfills duties and responsibilities as docent to assigned advisees. 1.7. Accomplishes annual professional development requirements (college-wide, human resources, track focused, etc.) structured to support the mission of the College.
2. Participates in research and scholarly activities. 2.1. Collaborates and/or mentors staff and students (internal and external) in the development of research questions and implementation of research projects. Responsibilities include; organizing ideas, formulating conceptual models, brainstorming on the best research design and methods, attaining IRB approval, and collecting, analyzing and synthesizing data in an effort to support scholarly activities such as preparing manuscripts for publication; presenting findings at local, national and international conferences; and submitting grant proposals to intramural and extramural grant programs in an effort to successfully secure research funding and to develop and maintain positive rapport with funding agencies, etc. 2.2. Facilitates and/or contributes towards interdepartmental research collaborations.
3. As relates to the department, actively engages in the advancement of the College. 3.1. Builds collaborative partnership opportunities across and among various entities participating in networking opportunities, (internal and external partners [elected officials, state constitutional officers, business and community leaders] other colleges and universities, hospitals, local organizations, societies, etc.) promoting relationships with the College. 3.2. Refers to and coordinates in advance with the Communications team in the Office of the President on all media contacts, communications, and/or interactions to include message, promotion, etc. in which asked to serve as an official representative, content expert, or spokesperson on behalf of the College. 3.3. Coordination in advance with the Communications team in the Office of the President on all Noorda-COM related legislative issues to include contact with the national, state, and local government officials, in which asked to serve as an official representative, content expert, or spokesperson on behalf of the College. 3.4. Serves on various committees and teams within the College as assigned (attending meetings, contributing to discussions, sharing/exchanging information, and leading constituents toward goal attainment) to include advising and mentoring (Students, clubs, campus organizations) 3.5. Contributes to College’s compliance with and in the development of required documentation as related to accreditation of the College to which departmental content is contributed. (faculty adequacy model, gathering data, self-assessment, peer review, providing input/feedback, etc.) aiding in the attainment of academic compliance 3.6. Participates in the production of various College materials [academic calendar, strategic planning, directory, College website, etc.].(collecting/preparing materials, organizing/formatting data, adhering to various deadlines, reviewing drafts, providing input/feedback, etc.). 3.7. Contributes to the College’s reputation/image of being one of the best osteopathic medical colleges (monitoring outcomes, partnering with internal and external stakeholders, modifying techniques, etc.). Qualifications: Education: Advanced degree (PhD, DO, or MD) in appropriate health related sciences. Experience: Preference is given to candidates with experience in teaching osteopathic medical, allied health and/ or graduate students. Preference will be given to those with experience, specifically in an osteopathic program. Demonstration of effective performance in research; • Presenting posters or abstracts at local, state, or national conferences • Presenting lectures at local, state, or national conferences • Participating as a principal investigator or co-investigator in extramural research grants, contracts or training grants. • Evidence of effective, consistent mentor of students, pre-doctoral fellows, post-graduate residents/fellows, and/or faculty-peers. Solid knowledge of the biological sciences, mathematics, chemistry, and the many other aspects of medicine. Skills & Abilities: Highly professional with honest, genuine, direct communication style, excellent interpersonal skills and emotional maturity with the essential ability to demonstrate tact, discretion and job diplomacy. Significant understanding of higher education. Proven track record of quality, integrity and trustworthiness. We are located in the beautiful Utah Valley in Provo surrounded by the Wasatch mountain range and Utah Lake. Our campus is in development for completion in 2021.
