Lower School Guidance Counselor Position The Lower School Guidance Counselor should be an outstanding school leader, demonstrating exceptional interpersonal and organizational skills to meet the needs of diverse stakeholders including students, families, and faculty. He/she will have a strong understanding of and respect for diverse needs in an early years and elementary age setting, as well as the ability to work with students, teachers, and families to facilitate a positive learning experience. LOCATION North Broward Preparatory School in Coconut Creek JOB PURPOSE You'll help us ensure that our student's academic, social and emotional needs are met. As a genuine team player, you'll work with the Lower School Principal and Assistant Principal to support the academic, social and emotional growth of students in the lower school. Your role will impact the organization by working collaboratively with members of the school community to support student learning,implement identified accommodations, develop intervention plans and strategies to support student success and maintain a strong school culture. REPORTING TO Lower School Principal OTHER KEY RELATIONSHIPS Internal: * Work directly with our Principal, Assistant Principal, Learning Specialist and classroom teachers and assistant teachers. * External: * Communicate with parents, psychologists, tutors, and other professionals (Speech and OT) who support our student's academic and social/emotional needs. ENGAGEMENT AND INTERACTION - SCHOOL AMBASSADOR TO INTERNAL COMMUNITY * Support students who require academic or other support and serve as a couselor to students, parents and teachers in developing and implementing accommodations and support plans. * Create a positive school climate for students, staff, and the community by developing or identifying programs for social and emotional well being. * Teach monthly Character Education lessons for all grade levels and oversee programs like Red Ribbon Week, DARE and other SEL programs. * Oversee: * o student counseling process * o development and implementation of individual academic plans for students * o support teachers when planning and implementing individual student academic plans and behavior modification plans * o follow up with parents, students, and teachers on progress * Maximize the individual successes of our diverse group of learners * Employee performance review ratings * Team's feedback * Program success LEARNING AND TEACHING * Interpret Neuropsychological Educational Evaluations to support students with accommodations * Support teachers in understanding the elements of a student's Neuropsychological Educational Evaluation and what it looks like in classroom practice * Review accommodations each trimester and for assessment needs * Teach character education lessons and identify needs for sessions * Develop behavioral and academic interventions and enrichments with teachers * Employee performance review ratings * Team's feedback PLANNING AND PREPARATION * Plan and manage projects * Adapt to changing work priorities * Promote the educational and social emotional development of students * Stay up to date with educational strategies that support differentiation and student success * Assist the Learning Specialists and teachers in planning for individual and small group student needs * Employee performance review ratings * Team's feedback * Program success PROFESSIONAL AND PERSONAL DEVELOPMENT * Attend weekly student support meetings * Participate in all lower school professional development * Develop professional development for staff * Work closely with Learning Specialists to remain current on brain-based research and executive functioning strategies * Coordinate needs with Speech and Occupational Therapy vendors who work with NBPS * Employee performance review ratings * Team's feedback * Program success * Training feedback OTHER * Support the Lower School Administrative Team as needed in the planning and implementation of various events, academic testing, and additional administrative duties as needed. * Employee performance review ratings * Team's feedback PERSONAL SPECIFICATIONS * Master's Degree in Child Psychology, School Counseling, Social Work or a related field * 3+ years experience working in a school-setting * Experience working in special and/or exceptional student education. * Experience in teaching, student services, mentoring, and/or instructional coaching * Experience with intervention development, behavioral modification and planning * Knowledge with guidance programs for elementary aged students * Ability to read, understand, and interpret Neuropsychoeducational evaluations * Ability to build rapport with school-age students * Commitment to building an effective partnership with parents and students * Excellent time management skills and flexibility in dealing with multi-functional tasks. * Good cross-cultural, interpersonal, and communication skills to interact with diverse nationalitie
