    About North Carolina Education Corps

    NCEC was launched in September 2020 by the North Carolina State Board of Education and Office of the Governor to connect caring adults to students to eliminate barriers to opportunity and unlock student potential. Now as an independent 501(c)(3) not-for-profit, NCEC partners with schools to recruit, train, and coach “corps members” who work for schools as high-impact tutors.

    Why high-impact tutoring? NCEC was created to support school personnel and students during COVID-19 and beyond. COVID-19 exacerbated challenges that have long existed in North Carolina. For example, prior to the pandemic data showed that only 36% of North Carolina's fourth graders could read at or above grade level. State results for the past two years showed young readers in North Carolina falling even further behind due to lost instructional time and added stressors.

    High-impact tutoring is an evidence-based approach to accelerating student learning. As high-impact tutors, NCEC corps members provide targeted 1-on-1 to 1-on-3 support to students to extend the reach of teachers and accelerate student growth. For now, all corps members work with K-3 students to help the students master phonics – a foundational skill for learning how to read. It's lifechanging for students and for corps members.

    Job Summary

    The Recruiting Intern will play a critical role in ensuring NCEC achieves its plans for growth in alignment with its mission, vision, and values by driving corps member applications and educating the citizens of North Carolina of our mission and talent needs. This position will be responsible for working closely with the recruitment team to develop the talent intelligence needed to source qualified applicants by researching regional and statewide talent sources, community organizations, and associations to develop a comprehensive resource document to leverage throughout the 2023 recruiting cycle.

    The Recruiting Intern will utilize those resources to meet our organizational hiring goals by posting with universities and community colleges, social sourcing campaigns, and responding to inquiries from potential candidates. During the active fall recruiting cycle when school districts are hiring corps members, the intern will primarily support Recruiting Managers with the application review process to ensure a positive candidate experience and placement.

    Because NCEC is a growing nonprofit, the Recruiting Intern must enjoy working within a small, entrepreneurial environment that is mission-driven and results-oriented environment. The ideal candidate must be able to effectively communicate with a diverse range of stakeholders. This position exercises substantial independent decision-making, a willingness to see needs and meet them, and a learner's spirit that wants to take on new tasks and build new skills.

    Responsibilities

    General Recruiting

    • Oversee event logistics for webinars, interest sessions, Q&A's, and attend community events
    • Community organization outreach to source candidates
    • Review of applications and conduct reference checks
    • Answer questions and connect with prospective candidates
    • Assist Recruitment Manager with daily tasks and responsibilities
    • Identify timely, appropriate opportunities to support specific organizational initiatives
    • Support the team in collecting compelling stories and quotes from current corps members

    Relationship-Building

    • Identify relevant recruitment partners and stakeholders, build lists and oversee outreach
    • Manage the Ambassador Program
    • Identify opportunities to creatively and meaningfully engage stakeholders

    Administration

    • Support recruitment activities my managing candidate interest data, including spreadsheet creation
    • Maintain recruitment files on the Microsoft SharePoint site
    • Manage organizational email addresses to ensure timely response by appropriate team members
    • Create and maintain recruitment toolboxes for key stakeholders in collaboration with the Marketing and Communications team
    • Support any and all aspects of the NC Ed Corps recruiting, marketing, and communications effort
    • Maintain a comprehensive recruitment dashboard in Microsoft Teams
    • Attend, contribute to, and record notes in team meetings

    Perform other related duties as requested or as responsibilities dictate

    Qualifications

    • Commitment to the mission and vision of North Carolina Education Corps

    • Exceptional written, verbal, and interpersonal skills

    • Familiarity with HubSpot or similar CMS platforms, its marketing automation capabilities, and basic HTML (WordPress)

    • Ability to learn new technology and processes quickly

    • Demonstrated ability to work on multiple projects simultaneously while managing tight deadlines

    • Comfort working on projects independently and as part of a larger team

    • Pursuing a bachelor's degree in business, education, communications, marketing, public relations, journalism, or a related field

    • Relevant professional experience

    Additional Information

    This position is currently remote within the state of North Carolina. You will need access to a personal computer, cell phone, and reliable internet to be effective. It may require reimbursable local travel to collect stories and photos around the state.

    Pay and Benefits

    The hiring range for this position is $20/hour. This position will require 15-20 hours/week of work depending on candidate availability. We are looking to fill this position immediately or by mid-April and will run through September 2023, with the possibility of extension.
