    Job Description

    The North Central States Regional Council of Carpenters seeks a full-time entry-level union advocate to assist in delivering communications throughout our six-state regional council.

    Carpenters build most medium to large-scale projects throughout your community. From stadiums to multi-family housing to bridges and other infrastructure, carpenters are your neighbors who earn a middle-class living with great benefits. Carpenters are also provided extensive leadership training to become leaders on and off the job.

    The North Central States Regional Council covers six states in the Upper Midwest and oversees 46 local unions of all crafts within the Carpenters Union. They serve 27,000 carpenters, millwrights, lathers, floor coverers, pile drivers and industrial workers. The North Central States region is part of the United Brotherhood of Carpenters, which covers the United States and Canada.

    As an integral part of a four-member team, the Communications Specialist is responsible for website content management, social media, written communications, graphic design and other necessary communications.

    The ideal candidate will possess good verbal and written skills, be deadline driven, and team oriented with a strong willingness to learn. Strong organizational skills, an ability to multitask and a positive attitude are essential.

    Responsibilities Include:

    • Provide content and maintain social media sites
    • Maintain and update websites
    • Work with staff to develop content for website, newsletters, magazines, and internal communications
    • Create flyers, newsletters, campaign material, and other printed materials
    • Use engagement tools to communicate internally including texting, email and infographic applications
    • Assist with press releases/media relations and campaign materials
    • Have interest in learning, shooting and editing of video
    • Comfortable taking and editing photos

    Qualifications:

    • ·BA or BS in relevant field. Equivalent experience may be submitted.
    • Must have a valid driver’s license and insurance; Some travel may be required.
    • Excellent written and oral skills
    • Experience with graphic design and video editing software (Adobe suite)
    • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team
    • Ability to work under tight deadlines and manage multiple tasks/campaigns at one time
    • Demonstrated understanding and use of social media and online tools, such as Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, YouTube
    • Excellent computer skills

    Preferred:

    • Spanish fluency
    • Commitment to, and understanding of, the labor movement and related issues
    • Communications experience for a labor, political or issue-advocacy organization or campaign is desired
