  • Responsibilities

    The Transportation Department of the North Central Texas Council of Governments is seeking Interns to support both the Roadway Corridor and Subarea Studies team, which focuses on specific roadway corridor evaluations and recommendations, and the Metropolitan Transportation Plan team, which focuses on implementing the long-range transportation plan for the region, currently known as Mobility 2045, and long-range transit planning. Qualified candidates must be attending an accredited college or university while in the position and able to work at the NCTCOG offices in Arlington, Texas.     Ideal candidates must be able to work at least 25 hours a week while attending school. 

    RESPONSIBILITIES MAY INCLUDE, BUT ARE NOT LIMITED TO, THE FOLLOWING:

    • Assisting with research and documenting activities related to long-range planning
    • Coordinating website materials and basic webpage development
    • Assisting with financial research and analysis
    • Developing graphics and presentation material for public engagement
    • Assisting with the development of evaluation processes for future passenger rail corridors in the region
    • Assisting with transit planning analyses
    • Assisting with roadway network reviews for accuracy and consistency, which includes reviewing speed limits, traffic controls, and functional classification
    • Assisting with the preparation of data for local government technical assistance requests, which includes pulling data such as level of service, preparing traffic volume plots, and some Geographic Information System (GIS) mapping
    • Assisting with maintenance of a technical assistance database

    Required Skills

    • Familiarity with Microsoft Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Teams
    • Geographic Information System (GIS) experience desired
    • Familiarity with webpage content management systems, such as Kentico
    • Strong critical-thinking and problem-solving skills
    • Detail oriented, highly organized, and have ability to multi-task on short deadlines
    • Ability to work independently and in a team environment
    • Ability to juggle various tasks and handle changing priorities

    Required Experience

    • Must be enrolled in an accredited college or university during employment. Pursuit of a degree in a related field desired.
    • No work experience required, at least one year of school-related experience preferred.

    Minimum of $15.00 per hour

The planning area for transportation includes the 12 counties of Collin, Dallas, Denton, Ellis, Hood, Hunt, Johnson, Kaufman, Parker, Rockwall, Tarrant, and Wise.
