    Range Technicians work in crews of 2-3 people to monitor vegetation and range health around Nevada and surrounding states. Successful applicants will have been trained in the NRCS's National Resources Inventory (NRI) methodology and will apply knowledge of plants and soils interactions to determine ecological site and interpret indicators of rangeland health on randomized plots throughout the project area. Calibration with senior North Wind botanists and NRCS range staff is required to assess accuracy.

    QUALIFICATIONS

    • Bachelors degree in range science, soil science, biology, botany or a related field. 
    • Experience with keying vegetation to species is essential for the position. 
    • Ability to work away from home for up to eight days at a time is required, and camping may be necessary. 
    • Attention to detail is paramount. 
    • Preference given to candidates with experience conducting vegetation monitoring, especially line-point intercept and gap intercept and/or experience characterizing soils and determining soil stability.
    • Experience using InReach GPS to navigate and update crew status preferred.
    • College level soil science.
    • Knowledge of local flora and USDA plant codes.
    • Experience with off-road driving and use of ATV.
    • Comfortable working outdoors for extended periods in all weather conditions.
    • CPR/First Aid certified.
    • Must be able to pass a pre-employment drug test and background check.
