    THIS POSITION IS SHORT TERM, MAX 1000 HOURS IN A CALENDAR YEAR

    North Wind Services, is actively seeking individuals who can contribute to national security within the science, technology, and engineering fields as part of our supplemental labor team at vital federal research and development installations supporting the Department of Energy. NWS has an established history of contributing to the success of their customer's mission. Available employment opportunities may range from administrative and logistical support to advanced technical positions. Qualified applicants must be a US citizen, at least 18 years of age, and able to meet pre-employment requirements including any required physicals, drug screen, and/or background investigation to satisfy clearance requirements from the Department of Energy. Successful candidates will be employees of NWS, a premier government contractor charged with employing highly-motivated and well-qualified personnel who can advance the missions of the Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory in Livermore, CA. Though employed by NWS, the employee will take day-to-day direction from technical personnel employed directly by the research laboratories. Pay, benefits, Human Resource, and Employment Management functions are provided by NWS.

    The Deputy Director for Science and Technology (DDST) has an opening for a Science and Technology Engagement Liaison position. The DDST Office is responsible for the Lab's science and technology base and oversees the strategic development of the Lab's capabilities. The office is responsible for Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory's (LLNL) collaborative research with academia, the private sector, and international strategic and scientific partners. It is also responsible for the Lab's internal investment portfolio. The DDS&T also functions as the Chief Research Officer and interacts regularly with DOE, NNSA, and other DOE laboratories.

    This position may require the successful candidate to travel, including international travel. The successful candidate will have minimal direction and should be able to work independently. The successful candidate will focus effort on on-going collaborations between the Department of Energy (DOE), LLNL, and designated international scientific communities. The United States government, working in part through DOE/NNSA, to expand the collaborative research and development ecosystem with Japan to strengthen the science and technology base in support of national security and economic security.

    Essential Duties

    - Facilitate dialogue, draft reports and strategic papers, coordinate outreach to technical contacts both domestically and abroad

    - Produce strategic documentation, facilitate robust technical engagement, strengthen the S&T base in support of national security for the US

    - Enhance S&T engagements to promote national security objectives

    - Historical understanding of the program development

    - Exhibited strong understanding of United States science and technology, relevant government agencies, and the development of international policy in these areas is required

    - Work closely with the Department of Energy key stakeholders, Deputy Director for Science and Technology

    - Interacting with Lab employees, DOE/NNSA management, LLNL management, International S&T officials

    - Work within the DDST office to coordinator outreach and opportunities for mutually beneficial engagement with international allies and the DOE

    - Work on projects including workshops, relationship development and mutually beneficial student programs

    Essential Skills, Knowledge, and Abilities

    -PhD degree

    - MS Office

    - Strong communication skills, both written and oral

    - Experience with international affairs and policy development

    - Senior level management experience

    - Experience in strategic development

    - Expertise in DOE/NNSA collaborative research areas

    - Understanding of the benefits of DOE/NNSA, LLNL and US government international partnerships.

    ** _ Special Requirements_**

    Pre-Placement Medical Exam : A job related pre-placement medical examination may be required.

    Anticipated Clearance Level : Q, SCI (position will be cleared to this level). Applicants selected will be subject to a federal background investigation and must meet eligibility requirements for access to classified information or matter. In addition, all L or Q cleared employees are subject to random drug testing. Q-level clearance requires U.S. citizenship. If you hold multiple citizenships (U.S. and another country), you may be required to renounce your non-U.S. citizenship before a DOE L or Q clearance will be processed/granted.
