    THE RADIOLOGICAL CONTROLS TECHNICIAN (RCT) provide field implementation and oversight of the Moab Project Radiation Protection Program and implementing procedures.

    JOB DESCRIPTION

    • Implement the day-to-day programmatic aspects of the Radiological Protection Plan;
    • Perform air sampling, radiation surveys, and radioactive contamination control monitoring;
    • Develop RWP's;
    • Conduct personnel and equipment surveys;
    • Implement access control measures such as posting and labeling and completion and management of records, ensuring personnel are meeting the RWP requirements;
    • Respond to accidents and emergencies;
    • Perform instrument source and function checks;
    • Generate radiological data, records, and reports;
    • Provide job coverage;
    • Provide developmental inputs to action plans, work plans, and job hazard analyses;
    • Conduct periodic work area walk downs;
    • Calibrate and repair radiological instruments if assigned; and
    • Coordinate dosimetry services if assigned.

    EDUCATION 

    To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.

    • Must be at least 18 years of age and have a high school diploma or equivalent. 
    • Minimum of three years of experience in applied health physics and experience in a field relevant to job requirements
    • (Education may substitute for up to one year of experience—six months for a related AS degree or one year for a related BS degree). 
    • Successful completion of the Core and Site-Specific DOE Radiological Control Technician Certification examination. Current 40 Hour HAZWOPER qualification or the ability to .

    SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

    • Demonstrate the ability to follow procedures, work packages, and/or protocols;
    • Demonstrate the ability to oversee and guide radiological support and radiological workers;
    • Demonstrate the ability to use and source check radiological instrumentation;
    • Demonstrate the ability to train junior technicians in the use of radiological instrumentation;
    • Demonstrate the ability to document survey and data results appropriately and accurately;
    • Demonstrate the ability to use different levels of PPE (including respiratory protection);
    • Demonstrate the ability to communicate effectively (written and verbal) with field project management and client representatives is essential;
    • Demonstrate the ability to review and qualify HP data results and calculations (survey, air monitoring, etc.);
    • Ability to participate in physically demanding work while wearing PPE, including respirator protection; and
    • Medically qualified to wear a respirator, able to lift 30 lbs, and able to climb ladders.

    QUALIFICATIONS PREFERRED:__

    •  Direct, relevant experience on a DOE radiological remediation project is desired.
    •  Registration with the National Registry of Radiation Protection Technologists (NRRPT), or the desire and ability to pursue such registration is preferred.
