    POSITION PURPOSE:_**

    • The Waste Management Specialist will support the Waste Manager in the overall management of wastes generated at the Luckey site, including waste characterization, waste packaging, and activities in support of waste shipping/disposal.

    ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

    • Assist the waste manager in completion of curie calculations and analytical data to determine DOT classification of the material in accordance with 49 CFR 173.2a.
    • Support waste manager in disposing of waste generated by the on-site laboratory.
    • Support waste manager in transportation and disposal efforts to the identified landfills.
    • Assist the team in receiving waste packaging on-site, performing inbound inspections, staging containers to be loaded/containers that are loaded.
    • Coordinating with the motor carrier to receive trucks on-site, stage trucks for loading, etc.
    • Provide shipping papers signed by the client to the drivers and obtain their signature.
    • Maintain the waste tracking field log.
    • Establish RCRA 90-day storage areas as required in accordance with site policies/procedures.
    • Label containers with non-hazardous waste or hazardous waste labels as required.
    • Prepare shipment documentation as needed.
    • Compile waste management reports and submittals as directed by the Waste Manager.

    ADDITIONAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: **
    Accountability and Authority:**

    • Accountable and reports to the project Waste Manager.

    MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: **
    Education and Experience:**

    • At least 5 years' of equivalent work experience, OR
    • A combination of education and relevant experience wherein the knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform the position's duties and responsibilities have been adequately demonstrated is acceptable.

    Skills and Abilities:

    • Knowledge and understanding of Federal, state, and local legislation, regulatory frameworks, and policy, and experience applying it to achieve practical outcomes
    • Possess or have the ability to acquire Advanced Mixed Waste Shipper Certification
    • Ability to perform basic mathematics.
    • Experience working in a quality-oriented environment requiring a high degree of attention to detail.
    • Experience working in a team environment with a strong safety culture.
    • Knowledge of transportation and disposal of LLW, MLLW, and hazardous materials/waste.
    • Ability to work within established policies and procedures.

    • Must be able to work overtime as needed.

    • OSHA 40-hour HAZWOPER training

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to stand, walk, sit, squat, climb and talk or hear. The employee is often required to use hands or fingers to handle or feel and reach with hands and arms. Must be able to lift up to 25 pounds as required.

    WORKING ENVIRONMENT:_

    • The work is conducted both indoors and outdoors. While performing the duties of this job, the employee may be exposed to extreme weather conditions (heat and cold) while outdoors. The noise level in the work environment is normally mild to moderate. The employee will be exposed to moving mechanical equipment, machinery, and vehicles carrying waste/hazmat material. The employee must be able to stand for long periods and walk across uneven terrain.
