    LOCATION: PHOENIX, ARIZONA TITLE: BIOLOGIST SCHEDULE (FT/PT): FT Incorporated in 2011, North Wind Resource Consulting's core capabilities include environmental documentation and permitting; natural and cultural resource surveys; wildlife and botanical expertise; National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA) technical services; historic and prehistoric surveys; environmental consultation such as Section 106 for cultural resources, Section 404 for wetlands, and Section 7 for endangered species); and Geographic Information Systems (GIS) and mapping capabilities. North Wind Resource Consulting maintains offices across the country.

    SUMMARY OF DUTIES:

    North Wind Resource Consulting, LLC, (North Wind) an enterprise of the Cook Inlet Region, Inc. (CIRI), an Alaska Native Corporation (ANC), is seeking a qualified biologist to assist with biological surveys and monitoring projects in Arizona and the Southwest. Pay will be commensurate with experience, and prevailing SCA rates will be paid for federal projects. M.A. /B.A. in Biology or closely related field is required, as is demonstrated experience in tortoise monitoring, and demonstrated experience with the Migratory Bird Act. Successful applicants will be in good physical condition and have experience performing pedestrian surveys under a variety of field conditions. The applicant should have the ability to work independently, compile detailed field notes and operate GPS for navigation and mapping is essential.

    REQUIREMENTS: 

    • Position will require extensive physical exertion, such as walking up to 10 hours a day over steep, uneven, heavily wooded, difficult terrain in outdoor heat /cold stress conditions and weather elements such as wind, snow or rain.
    • Ability to carry up to 30 lbs. of equipment; ability to lift a minimum of 80 lbs.; potential contact with poisonous plants, insects and animals.
    • Individual must be able to conduct these tasks while wearing the appropriate personal protective equipment.
    • This work may be performed in remote locations and require camping. Applicants must be able to travel by airplane and staying at hotels.
    • There may be extensive driving required and applicants should have clean driving record and be capable of off-road driving over rough terrain.
    • The position requires high quality technical report writing skills.
    • Demonstrates the ability to accurately identify species and their habitats
    • Is capable of performing trainings with construction crews for avoidance of species.
    • Takes photographs of field work and maintains a daily log of activities.
    • Complete work according to agencies' stipulations and guidelines.

    QUALIFICATIONS: 

    • Applicants should have either a M.A./B.A. degree in biology or a closely related field or experience equivalent . 
    • 1+ years of experience
    • Must have Sonoran Desert Tortoise monitoring certification
    • Is familiar with Collector and Terrasync
    • Survey experience in Yuma, AZ. with flat-tailed lizard
    • Demonstrated experience with writing EAs
    • CPR and First Aid certification
