    POSITION PURPOSE:

    To provide support to the day-to-day implementation of the Radiological Protection Program

    ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

    • Implements the day-to-day programmatic aspects of the Radiological Protection Plan
    • Performs air sampling, radiation surveys, and radioactive contamination control monitoring
    • Develops RWP's
    • Conducts personnel and equipment surveys
    • Implements access control measures such as posting and labeling and completion and management of records, ensuring personnel are meeting the RWP requirements
    • Responds to accidents and emergencies
    • Performs instrument source and function checks
    • Generates radiological data, records, and reports
    • Provides job coverage
    • Provides developmental inputs to action plans, work plans, and job hazard analyses
    • Conducts periodic work area walk downs

    QUALIFICATIONS:

    EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:

    • Must be at least 18 years of age and have a high school diploma or equivalent.
    • Minimum of three years' experience in applied health physics and experience in a field relevant to job requirements (Education may substitute for up to one year of experience—six months for a related AS degree or one year for a related BS degree).

    LANGUAGE SKILLS:

    Requires moderate interpersonal and communication skills in dealing with others to ensure that customer requests or needs are met. Acknowledges and clarifies customer inquiries, requests, or complaints to ensure that needs are identified, documented, and addressed.

    MATHEMATICAL SKILLS:

    Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.

    REASONING ABILITY:

    Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed written and/or oral instructions; ability to deal with problems involving variables in non-standardized situations. Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.

    COMMUNICATION:

    Communicates clearly and concisely in speech and writing. Demonstrates understanding of and sensitivity to unspoken meaning and nonverbal cues. Facilitates communication across the organization and effectively interfaces with customer, contractor, and site personnel on a daily basis.

    SKILL SET:

    Demonstrates effective use of systems, tools and other resources to reflect understanding and clear insights of processes, systems and methodologies of process improvement. Ability to visualize alternative processes and think conceptually.

    **KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, & ABILITIES: **

    • Demonstrate the ability to follow procedures, work packages, and/or protocols
    • Demonstrate the ability to oversee and guide radiological support and radiological workers
    • Demonstrate the ability to use and source check radiological instrumentation
    • Demonstrate the ability to train junior technicians in the use of radiological instrumentation
    • Demonstrate the ability to document survey and data results appropriately and accurately
    • Demonstrate the ability to use different levels of PPE (including respiratory protection)
    • Demonstrate the ability to communicate effectively (written and verbal) with field project management and client representatives is essential
    • Demonstrate the ability to review and qualify HP/IH data results and calculations (survey, air monitoring, etc.)
    • Ability to participate in physically demanding work while wearing PPE, including respirator protection
    • Medically qualified to wear a respirator, able to lift 30 lbs, and able to climb ladders
    • Ability to obtain and hold a security clearance.

    The work is conducted both indoors and outdoors. While performing the duties of this job, the employee will be exposed to outside weather conditions. The noise level in the work environment is normally mild to moderate. The employee may be exposed to moving mechanical parts.
