    North Wind Site Services is focused on providing engineering, program management, environmental remediation services including investigation and characterization, environmental restoration, unexploded ordnance/military munitions response (MMRP), regulatory public involvement services, environmental compliance, logistics, and records and facility management.

    POSITION PURPOSE:_**
    The Waste Management Coordinator (WMC) provides front-line subject matter expertise in waste operations. As a WMC, the selected candidate will be responsible for providing a turnkey customer focused approach to waste management to include collection of waste characterization samples, characterization sample planning, packaging, storage, and disposal of hazardous waste, non-hazardous waste, and other types of solid and liquid waste, including other waste streams such as New Mexico Special Waste, universal waste, PCB waste and radioactive waste.
    Through specialized skills, knowledge and understanding of waste operations, WMCs provide cradle to grave operational control and oversight that ensures compliance with Resource Conservation and Recovery Act (RCRA), Department of Energy (DOE) 435.1, Radioactive Waste Management, and Department of Transportation (DOT) regulations. ** _

    ** ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:**

    • Observe loading of waste material.
    • Provide waste packaging support to field personnel.
    • Coordinate with personnel and subcontractors for container delivery, container retrieval from storage, container weights, etc.
    • Work with on-site client Waste Management Coordinators for re-packaging or over-packing containers that are found to be unsuitable for shipment.
    • Coordinate with on-site client Waste Management Coordinators to schedule container movements and shipments.
    • Perform Pre-Service inspections on new and used containers and document inspections in accordance with applicable site procedures.
    • Assist in development of work control packages and job hazard analyses.

    MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:_** **

    Education and Experience:**

    • At least 5 years' of equivalent work experience, OR
    • A combination of education and relevant experience wherein the knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform the position's duties and responsibilities have been adequately demonstrated is acceptable.
    • OSHA 40-hour HAZWOPER training

    Skills and Abilities:**

    • Ability to work within established policies and procedures.
    • Understanding of work hazards, safety practices, waste characteristics, waste (chemical) compatibility and treatment processes and nuclear facility operations.
    • Willingness to handle and package solid, liquid, hazardous, radioactive, and/or mixed wastes.
    • Experience working in a quality-oriented environment requiring a high degree of attention to detail.
    • Experience working in a team environment with a strong safety culture.
    • Expert knowledge in management of radioactive and hazardous materials in accordance with Federal, State, and Local requirements (e.g. DOE O 435.1)
    • Comprehensive knowledge of hazardous and radiological waste characterization, generation, and packaging.
    • Knowledge of transportation and disposal of LLW, MLLW and hazardous materials/waste.
    • Possess a combination of strong leadership skills, in managing all aspects of waste management and transportation services including personnel and equipment, as well as regulatory and contractual aspects.
    • Proficiency in MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook).

    Special Requirements:**

    • Must pass pre-employment background check.
    • Must pass pre-employment drug testing.
    • Must have a valid driver license.
    • Ability to pass U.S. Government employment background check and acquire U.S. Government Personal Identity Verification (PIV) credential card.
    • May be required to obtain and maintain a DOE “Q” clearance.
    • Must be able to be escorted by a DOE Q-cleared escort and work at a DOE facility.

    WORKING ENVIRONMENT:_**
    The work is conducted both indoors and outdoors. While performing the duties of this job, the employee may be exposed to extreme weather conditions (heat and cold) while outdoors. The noise level in the work environment is normally mild to moderate. The employee will be exposed to moving mechanical equipment, machinery, and vehicles carrying waste/hazmat material. The employee must be able to stand for long periods and walk across uneven terrain.
