North Wind Services is actively seeking individuals who can contribute to national security within the science, technology, and engineering fields as part of our supplemental labor team at vital federal research and development installations supporting the Department of Energy. Successful candidates will be employees of NWS, a premier government contractor charged with employing highly motivated and well-qualified personnel who can advance the missions of the Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory in Livermore, CA. Though employed by NWS, the employee will take day-to-day direction from technical personnel employed directly by the research laboratories. The Strategic Deterrence Department has an opening in the Weapon Simulation and Computing Program for a Software Developer. The successful candidate will develop improved computational geometry functionality by interacting with customers to determine requirements to create or modify software in Python and C++ and testing for the results. The successful candidate will work under the PMesh Project Leader with limited supervision. The successful candidate will work on technical software development and ensure accuracy of generated output.
Essential Duties
- Perform requirements analysis by determining customer goals and breaking down new requirements into development units.
- Successfully develop, test, and deploy resulting software.
- Integrate software into more applications, fixing bugs alongside the PMesh team.
- Ensuring accuracy of generated output systematically since the goal is verification and validation.
- Understand user requirements, implement desired features, and maintain code.
- Computational geometry expertise, including volumes, surfaces, curves, transforms, trimming, and other CAD and Computational Solid Geometry (CSG) structures and operations are essential.
- Checking for continuous integration pipeline failures and continuous checking in with customers on new issues or bugs.
- Perform all other job duties as assigned.
Essential Skills, Knowledge, and Abilities
- B.S. Degree or equivalent of 8 years in work experience in software development, geometric development or modifying software in Python and C++.
- Expert level experience in computational geometry, including volumes, surfaces, curves, transforms, trimming, and other CAD and Computational Solid Geometry (CSG) structures and operations.
- Strong experience in determining the needed volume categories and correctly represent the volume categories in new formats.
- Ability to create tests that ensure the correct output.
- Proven ability in making updated software available to users in a timely manner.
- Strong knowledge and experience in Python, C++ and Gitlab.
Desired Skills, Knowledge and Abilities
- Expert level knowledge in computational geometry, including volumes, surfaces, curves, transforms, trimming, and other CAD and Computational Solid Geometry (CSG) structures and operations.
