    North Wind Site Services is focused on providing engineering, program management, environmental remediation services including investigation and characterization, environmental restoration, unexploded ordnance/military munitions response (MMRP), regulatory public involvement services, environmental compliance, logistics, and records and facility management.

    CANDIDATES MUST BE ABLE TO MEET THE STANDARDS REQUIRED TO OBTAIN AND HOLD A SECRET OR HIGHER US GOVERNMENT CLEARANCE JOB DESCRIPTION

    The Environmental Scientist/Engineer supports environmental and construction projects in Alaska. Supports the sampling of various media, eld data collection activities including groundwater quality and GPS surveys, and support environmental drilling operations.

    Support project management, prepare planning documents and reports, supports eld teams conducting site assessments, and interacts with regulatory agencies to develop successful solutions to project challenges. 

    Applies regulatory scientic principles to assist clients in the following areas: environmental impact assessment and mitigation, site investigation, regulatory compliance, soil and groundwater remediation, land management, waste management, and other environmental areas. Responsibilities include:

    • Performing field work to collect soil, water, air, or other samples.
    • Collaborate with environmental scientists, planners, hazardous waste technicians, engineers, and other specialists, to address environmental problems.
    • Provide scientific and technical guidance, support, coordination, and oversight to governmental agencies, environmental programs, industry, or the public.
    • Communicate scientific and technical information to clients, or internal audiences through oral briefings, written documents, and formal meetings.
    • Inspect facilities and programs to evaluate operational effectiveness and ensure compliance with environmental regulations.
    • May review permit applications and/or enforcing rules and regulations pertaining to environmental protection.
    • Participate in the preparation of work plans for a wide variety of customers.
    • Prepare, review, and update technical and recommendation reports.
    • Provide assistance in regulatory analysis, and planning or reviewing database development.
    • Obtain, update, and maintain plans, permits, and standard operating procedures.
    • Provide technical-level support for environmental remediation and investigation projects.
    • Monitor progress of environmental improvement programs.
    • Participate in field eff orts to support the successful execution of projects.
    • Participate in the preparation of work plans and reports for a wide variety of customers.
    • Under the guidance of the Project Manager, evaluate analytical laboratory data and draw conclusions and make recommendations.
    • Coordinate with subcontractors to determine project schedules.
    • Direct field activities under the guidance of the Field Manager.
    • Arrange travel and logistics for projects.

    QUALIFICATIONS

    • Bachelor's degree in a related field.
    • Communicates clearly and concisely in speech and writing. Demonstrates understanding of and sensitivity to unspoken meaning and nonverbal cues. Facilitates communication across the organization and effectively interfaces with customer, contractor, and site personnel on a daily basis.
    • Requires good interpersonal skills in dealing with others (colleagues and clients) to ensure that customer requests and needs are met. Must acknowledge and clarify customer inquiries, requests, or complaints to ensure that needs are identified, documented and addressed.
    • Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed written and/or oral instructions; ability to deal with problems involving variables in non-standardized situations.
    • Ability to adapt to and maintain a safety conscious work environment.
    • Ability to demonstrate, conduct, and conform to a set of values and accepted standards, such as honesty, integrity, reliability, and accountability.
    • Ability to pay attention to the minute details of a project or task, and perform work accurately and thoroughly.
    • Must be able to pass a pre-employment drug test and background check.
