    POSITION SUMMARY

    The MS/HS Day Custodian provides students and staff with a physical learning environment that is safe, clean, and smoothly functioning. The Custodian is a key employee who actively engages in NorthPointe Christian’s mission of “Equipping students to impact their world for Jesus Christ” through his/her interaction with students and staff.


    RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES

    • Model Biblical character and integrate Biblical principles and Scripture into daily interactions with students and staff. Minister to students through prayer, encouragement, and wise counsel.
    • Support the School’s Foundational Statements and mission through word and deed.
    • Participate in a minimum of two “mission-building” activities throughout the school year. Examples include but are not limited to: serving as a discipleship group leader, participating in a chapel service, assisting in Elementary School Bible study, leading or participating in a prayer or worship event, sharing a testimony or words of encouragement to a class or group of students, coaching, or assisting a student with a faith-based project.
    • Keep building and property in clean, orderly, and presentable condition.
    • Cleaning and Sanitization: Perform routine cleaning tasks such as sweeping, mopping, vacuuming, dusting, and wiping down surfaces in various areas of the facility, including but not limited to, bathrooms, classrooms, hallways, restrooms, and common areas.
    • Restroom Maintenance: Clean and sanitize restroom fixtures, replenish supplies such as soap, paper towels, and toilet paper, and ensure that restrooms are well-maintained and presentable.
    • Trash Removal: Empty trash bins and dispose of waste in accordance with established guidelines, ensuring that waste receptacles are regularly emptied and kept clean.
    • Floor Care: Maintain and care for different types of flooring, including carpeting, tile, and hardwood, by using appropriate cleaning methods and equipment.
    • Surface Disinfection: Follow proper disinfection protocols, especially during times of heightened health concerns, to ensure the facility's surfaces are properly sanitized to promote a healthy environment.
    • Light Maintenance: Identify and report any maintenance issues such as broken fixtures, leaks, or damages to the appropriate department for repair.
    • Window and Glass Cleaning: Clean windows, glass doors, and mirrors to maintain a clear and presentable appearance.
    • Safety and Security: Maintain a safe environment by promptly addressing spills, removing obstacles, and ensuring that walkways are clear and free from hazards.
    • Communication: Communicate effectively with colleagues and supervisors to report completed tasks, maintenance needs, and any unusual observations. Communicate any major repairs or building needs with the Director of Facilities.
    • Stock Management: Monitor and maintain adequate supplies of cleaning materials, tools, and equipment, ensuring that inventory is stocked and ready for use.
    • Special Projects: Assist with occasional special cleaning projects or tasks, such as deep cleaning, organizing storage areas, and preparing for events or meetings.
    • Cleanup of accidents.
    • Follow proper procedures for the use of chemical cleaners and power machinery to prevent damage to property or personal injury.
    • Manage and organize summer cleaning crew to deep clean over the summer.
    • Communicate any major repairs or building needs with the Director of Facilities and Elementary Principal.
    • Other duties deemed necessary by the Director of Facilities or Principals.

    QUALIFICATIONS AND SKILLS

    • Active Christian in agreement and willing to sign the NorthPointe Christian School’s Foundational statements.
    • Able to pass required background checks and fingerprint screening.
    • High school diploma/GED preferred.
    • Knowledge of standard cleaning methods and procedures or willing to learn.
    • Experience with using cleaning equipment, including vacuum cleaners, floor buffers, and cleaning solutions or willing to learn.
    • Able to operate hand and power tools, vacuums, and other related equipment or willing to learn.
    • Attention to detail and a commitment to maintaining high cleanliness and hygiene standards.
    • Excellent skills to communicate effectively and positively with students and staff.
    • Able to meet deadlines and perform duties with time constraints.
    • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
    • Flexibility to adapt to changing cleaning priorities.

      • Sufficiently hear conversations in person and distinguish sounds clearly.
    • The employee will regularly work near moving mechanical and electronic equipment and tools.
    • The employee will regularly work with toxic or caustic chemicals such as cleaning products and sprays.
    • Occasional duties will be completed outdoors.
    • The noise level in the work environment will vary based on the location of the task begin completed. Some areas of the school building are quiet while others can become loud.

    WORK ENVIRONMENT

    The work environment involves some exposure to hazards and physical risks, which will require basic safety precautions.

    • The employee will regularly work near moving mechanical and electronic equipment and tools.
    • The employee will regularly work with toxic or caustic chemicals such as cleaning products and sprays.
    • Occasional duties will be completed outdoors.
    • The noise level in the work environment will vary based on the location of the task begin completed. Some areas of the school building are quiet while others can become loud.
