  • Responsibilities
    **Summary** : Responsible for conducting design and development of Invacare products from concept solution to obsolescence, including acceptance into production, on-going production support and resolution of concerns and complaints.  Provide development through leadership, guidance and assistance to internal and external customers as required by the business.
    

    Essential Functions:

    Provide engineering leadership in following ways:

    • * In support of project teams up through final release of drawings and first production run.
      
      • Through “troubleshooting” and resolution of field issues.
      • Investigation and implementation of significant cost reductions.
    • Leading the organization and development of concepts for new products.
    • Provide sustaining engineering support to assigned product lines helping the on-going cost reduction/product improvement activities of Change Board.
    • Maintain and develop high level of knowledge of technical aspects of electrical design or product components/systems and provide strategic direction in these areas.
    • Support existing products, particularly in area of “expertise”, with Engineering Documentation and day-to-day consultation to Operations, Marketing, Technical Services, etc.
    • On a selected basis, and with limited direction, execute or lead the following activities during the product development process.
    • Agreement with Marketing on Functional Specifications.
    • Creation and management approval of development schedule.
    • Concept development and prototype design including planning, design, documentation, code creation, review, communication.
    • Building and testing of prototypes.
    • Development and execution of test protocols and plans and risk assessments.
    • Perform Product testing and verification.
    • Use traceability for requirement verification and change impact analysis.
    • Diagnose and fault-find verification failures.
    • Provide Electrical System support aligned with the various products.
    • Support concept solution development in the S2 phase and transition to development S3a phase and verification S3b phase.
    • Release of prints in a manner (accuracy, completeness, and timeliness) that supports the project timeline.
    • Periodic review meetings with all functional groups.
    • Embedded Firmware Development/C++ Programing
    • Ensure that all required training is identified for and completed by all direct reports
    • Ensure that all product development processes and activities conform to Invacare’s quality system
    • In collaboration with QA/RA and in a pro-active manner, ensure that product development processes and activities meet appropriate domestic and international safety and quality standards
    • Exhibit positivity, flexibility, creativity, and a willingness to take on new responsibilities as requested or required.

    ****Qualifications:

    • Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical Engineering or related field. Advanced degree preferred.
    • Minimum 3-5 years of product engineering experience in a team-based environment.
    • Proven engineering expertise in specified areas. (gear design, software, motors, controls systems, etc.)
    • Knowledge and experience with current and best practice software design and testing techniques and methodologies.
    • Highly knowledgeable in the utilization of necessary; software tools, analysis equipment, measurement tools, measurement techniques, test methods, industry standards, and industry best practices, for related expertise
    • Proficient utilizing PC design tools to generate prototypes and convey design concepts to other functional departments.
    • Knowledge and experience performing product verification.
    • Knowledge of medical regulatory requirements a plus.
    • Must have had experience working with an Engineering Change process and manufacturing Bill of Materials.
    • Ability to do layouts and detail drawings sufficient to generate prototypes and convey design concepts to other functional departments.
    • Effective communication skills
    • Experience supporting manufacturing operations.

    • Strong sense of ownership and thoroughness, with high level of attention to detail.
