    Job Description

    ELEMENTARY SCHOOL TEACHER (K-6) FULL-TIME POSITION / MULTIPLE POSITIONS AVAILABLE

    Elementary School Teachers are responsible for the education of their students. They are expected to demonstrate high moral character and have mastery of the subjects they teach. Teachers will work collaboratively to create a working and learning environment for all students that is safe, secure, and respectful. Teachers are salaried, exempt positions with base standard hours of 7:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. daily. Salary will be set annually on a performance-based schedule. Teachers will report to the principal/head of school.

    Atlanta Classical Academy and Northwest Classical Academy are K-12, public charter schools characterized by fidelity to an ‘American classical’ model of liberal arts education.

    Adherence to Mission and Philosophy. Teachers are expected to:

    • Embrace the principles of classical education
    • Develop the intellect of each student to the utmost of their ability
    • Develop the personal character of every student

    Knowledge of Academic Discipline(s)

    •  Upper School: Depth of knowledge in one or more academic disciplines
    •  Elementary School: Breadth of knowledge across the Core Knowledge curriculum

    Command of the English language

    •  Ability to speak and write lucidly and grammatically
    •  Ability to correct students in writing and in speaking

    Teaching Abilities. Teachers must demonstrate:

    •  A passion for learning and a coachable countenance
    •  A love for children and an ability to convey knowledge to them according to their needs
    •  Promotion of high academic standards and an unrelenting desire to improve students’ work
    •  Ability to maintain an orderly classroom and engage all students in the discussion
    •  Maintain appropriate communications and partnership with parents/guardians
    •  Maintain collegial relationships with other employees of the school
    •  Punctuality, initiative, positive energy, and professionalism

    Maintenance of Classroom Decorum. To maintain a classroom conducive to learning teachers must:

    •  Require students to be kind and attentive
    •  Require students to be respectful to their teachers and coaches
    •  Enforce the dress code
    •  Instruct students in the Core Virtues (courage, courtesy, honesty, perseverance, self-government, and service) and ensure that they follow them
    •  Be sensitive to problems as they are developing and intervene immediately

    Minimum Qualification

    •  Bachelor’s degree from a fully accredited college or university
    •  Demonstrated mastery in an academic discipline (upper school and specialists)
    •  Ability and willingness to teach a range of subjects included in the Core Knowledge sequence (elementary)
    •  Eagerness to teach moral character
    •  Ability to speak and write clearly and effectively
    •  Possession of or eligibility for a Georgia teaching certificate for the level and subject area to be taught; this is a requirement for Special Education teachers.

    Other Desired Characteristics

    •  Conviction in the values of a rigorous liberal arts education
    •  A liberal arts education
    •  Previous teaching experience or experience working with young people
    •  Experience in or knowledge of charter or independent schools

    About Atlanta Classical Academy and Northwest Classical Academy

    Atlanta Classical Academy presently employees approximately 100 faculty and staff members, and it is leading the effort to open a sister school twenty-five miles away in Kennesaw, Georgia. Before August 2021, the team will hire 50 new employees and launch Northwest Classical Academy (“NCA”) for approximately 470 students in grades K – 6. NCA would expand each year and ultimately serve grades K – 12. The children of full-time employees have enrollment preference and would be offered a seat in the school.
