    Job Description

Northwestern Medicine has an exciting opportunity for an acute care nurse practitioner or physician assistant.  We are seeking highly motivated new or recent graduates who would like to pursue a career providing acute care in the hospital setting. This is an intensive ONE-YEAR TRAINING PROGRAM that uses a multidisciplinary approach to prepare clinicians to step into the challenging and fast-paced role of a critical care Advanced Practice Provider (APP). The APP Critical Care Fellowship consists of one month rotations with emergency medicine and hospital medicine before transitioning to the ICU for the remainder of the year with supplementary elective rotations including cardiology, palliative care, infectious disease, interventional radiology, and anesthesia. There will be dedicated didactics as well as case-based learning and procedural simulations.  The APP fellow will become competent in critical care procedures including intubation, central line and arterial line placement, thoracentesis, and chest tube placement. They will work directly with APPs and physicians in caring for patients admitted for a variety of medical etiologies. Fellows will learn to master conducting comprehensive histories, physical exams, diagnostic interpretation and creating plans of care. By the end of the program, the fellow will be competent in all critical care management, bedside procedures, and autonomy in managing the Intensive Care Unit. Following the fellowship, preference is given to high-performing fellows for open positions within Northwestern.

Exposed to a variety of clinical rotations, APP fellows will refine critical thinking, diagnostic, and clinical skills necessary for managing complex medical situations and for providing safe, efficient and effective care to adult hospitalized patients in the ICU. The APP Critical Care Fellowship provides an opportunity for licensed advanced practice providers to receive 12 months of intensive clinical training and preparation for the acute care setting.
