    Job Description

Collaborates with Human Resources and other managers to ensure appropriate staffing. Advances innovative retention strategies for staff. Collaboratively manages the disciplinary process when appropriate. Facilitates the annual performance review process. Ensure application of staffing tools. Facilitates mentoring of clinical research staff. Manages people and resources to ensure safe and efficient clinical research operations. Collaborates with the clinical coordinators to ensure optimal staffing and scheduling practices are achieved to ensure safe research study care and study protocol integrity. Embeds innovative strategies to support a healthy practice environment that encourages break time and reduces worker fatigue. Ensures clinical research best practices and billing compliance. Ensures compliance with all applicable federal, state, and institutional regulatory guidelines related to clinical research and affiliate operations.

    Partners with the clinical and non-clinical support services departments to ensure optimal scheduling and throughput practices. Supports care coordination and response to operational issues. Ensures sustained Control phase of DMAIC for all process improvement initiatives. Performs assessments and evaluations to determine approach to implementation of new processes, protocols, and procedures. Supervises process of new study submissions, regulatory compliance review, and utilization review. Responsible for Environment of Care. Identify processes and outcomes which are important for customer satisfaction, technical quality, regulatory compliance or other institutional priorities. Coaching and Development: Provides daily, just-in-time feedback to improve performance and self-esteem of staff. Tracks coaching discussions and actual performance of associates to ensure accountability. Seeks ways to match staff members talents and career interests with organizational opportunities. Continuous Learning: Continually examines ways to improve business relationships with customers, suppliers, community, etc. Seeks and is open to new ideas from a wide range of sources; encourages others to share knowledge and best practices. Additional Functions: Clinical Research Unit, Inpatient and Outpatient areas: Ensures all staff and shifts have appropriate training, education, supervision and monitoring to ensure effective, safe, efficient, productive and high quality operations. Ensures a safe high quality work environment for the delivery services and clinical research support. Collaborates effectively with multiple stakeholders across institutions in a matrixed academic environment. Ensures regulatory and policy standards are adhered to in all operations. Identify and manage cross-project dependencies and resolve conflicting priorities.

    Facilitate and ensure cross-functional resource support for projects. Advocates the use of effective and proven project management, quality process improvement methodologies and budget management techniques to support defined project objectives on-time and on-budget. Coordinates the development and execution of the operational/system implementation, and communication plans for various clinical research projects. Develops and maintains relationships with all customers including staff, researchers, study coordinators, physicians, vendors, and others as needed. Establishes, implements, and monitors the unit or service areas capital and operating budget to achieve defined targets. In collaboration with NUCATS, creates annual operating budget and is accountable for monthly financial performance. In collaboration with NUCATS, creates and implements capital requests, replacements and departmental projects. Partners with the leadership to advance improvement initiatives and opportunities. Advocates the use of effective and proven project management, quality process improvement methodologies and budget management techniques to support defined project objectives on-time and on-budget.

  • Qualifications

    Qualifications

    Required:

    • Masters Degree or current enrollment.
    • 5+ years of relevant clinical or research experience.
    • 3-5 years of management experience.
    • Working knowledge of adult research populations.

    Preferred:

    • 5+ years of relevant clinical and research experience.
    • Licensed as a professional nurse in the State of Illinois.
    • PhD or DNP or current enrollment.
