    Job Description

    The SUPPORTIVE ONCOLOGY EDUCATION COORDINATOR reflects the mission, vision, and values of NM, adheres to the organization's Code of Ethics and Corporate Compliance Program, and complies with all relevant policies, procedures, guidelines, and all other regulatory and accreditation standards.

    RESPONSIBILITIES:

    • Provides reference and education services to patients and family members in a timely, professional manner. In cooperation with the clinical staff, provides educational programs for cancer center patients and families.
    • Formats may include, but are not limited to, classroom instruction, individual consultation, point-of-need instruction, and online instruction.
    • Participates in development of teaching tools commensurate with demand and successfully implements them to promote quality outcomes, revising them as required or appropriate.
    • Uses computer technology and other innovative methodologies to support patient and family learning efforts.
    • Participates in identification, measurement, and evaluation of educational outcomes and additional research endeavors.
    • Compiles and reports statistical information that accurately reflects the daily activity.
    • Responsible for expanding and maintaining an expanded concierge volunteer program. This includes administrative and managerial oversight of volunteers within both clinical cancer centers.
    • Responsible for co-leadership of the patient education committee.
    • Develops attractive display areas for learning tools in all formats.
    • Assists in the development of marketing strategies, advertising tools, and other initiatives to promote and advance key service lines and educational programs (Cancer Connections).
    • May perform other duties as assigned.
  • Qualifications

    Qualifications

    REQUIRED:

    • Bachelor's degree in Health Education, Social Work, Public Health, Library Science, or a related field.
    • Three to five years experience in health care.

    PREFERRED:

    • Master's degree in health education, public health, library science, social work or a related field.
    • National Commission for Health Education Credentialing, Certified Health Education Specialist (CHES) certification or equivalent within six months of employment.
    • Medical Library Association, Academy of Health Information Professionals (AHIP) credential or within one year of employment.
    • Clinical Social Worker, Licensed (IL) or similar credential or license in related field.
    • Social Worker experience
