Job Description
The HEALTH PSYCHOLOGIST reflects the mission, vision, and values of Northwestern Memorial, adheres to the organization’s Code of Ethics and Corporate Compliance Program, and complies with all relevant policies, procedures, guidelines and all other regulatory and accreditation standards.
The Health Psychologist position has two pathways: 1) full-time or part-time and works as an employee, 2) part-time and works as an independent contractor.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- The health psychologist conducts a form of brief psychology that seeks to change negative thought patterns and attitudes in order to change behavior. A particular focus of behavioral medicine is to teach healthy, new behaviors. These new behaviors affect an individual’s response to stress. Components of this cognitive behavior include education, training in coping skills training in motivation techniques and group support. Behavior medicine includes hypnosis, visualization and imagery, biofeedback, qi qong and meditation.
- At the first visit assessment and treatment plan is activated. Treatment usually involves several visits.
- Documents visit notes according to SOAP within 48 hours of visit. Initial visit notes are reviewed and initialed by the medical director. Manages to PCO.
- Functions within the “Health Psychologist’s Scope of Services,” and performs only those modalities of which one is certified.
- Works closely with CIM’s Medical Director to ensure that patient assessments and treatment plans are consistent with established CIM clinical guideline and protocols.
- Follows the Integrative Medical Model as outlined, paying particular attention to communication with primary care physician.
- Cooperates with CIM/NMPG management, as needed, in support of marketing and program development initiatives, such as requests to participate in workshops, interviews, and article writing.
- Understands insurance protocols, payor agreements and NMPG insurance contracts. Understands each patient’s financial category. Utilizes and conforms to billing and collection practices.
- Accurately and timely completes “scanner “ form on every patient including service received, and diagnosis code.
- Attends and actively participates in 75% of case management presentations hosted by CIM provider staff. Presents at least one clinical case every six months.
- Attends Grand Rounds monthly meeting.
- Reports any patient unexpected outcome immediately to director.
- Reports patients complaints to site manager immediately.
- Performs all other related activities as reasonably requested by NMPG.
