About the Role
We are seeking a detail-oriented and highly analytical Nuclear Weapons Stockpile Historian to support the NE-NL Nuclear Operations Division, Stockpile Operations Branch (NE-NLOS). In this role, you will provide historical accountability expertise for nuclear weapons programs, ensuring accurate documentation, research, and reporting of stockpile operations.
Key Responsibilities
• Maintain and update nuclear weapons history databases assigned to the DoD.
• Conduct research using government records, periodicals, interviews, and electronic media.
• Transcribe and digitize historical documents for archival purposes.
• Evaluate, validate, and verify historical data for accuracy and completeness.
• Investigate and resolve complex historical discrepancies.
• Generate detailed nuclear history reports and briefings.
• Develop training materials and curriculum related to nuclear weapons history and classification.
• Monitor and respond to changes in nuclear weapons classification policy.
• Prepare documentation for FOIA requests, Congressional inquiries, and other official communications.
• Communicate findings effectively to senior leadership through briefings and written reports.
Required Qualifications
• Bachelor's or Master's degree in History, Political Science, National Security, or related field.
• 5+ years of experience in historical research, preferably in a defense or government setting.
• Familiarity with nuclear weapons programs or national security policy is a plus.
• Strong skills in data analysis, archival research, and document digitization.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Experience with FOIA processes and classified document handling.
• U.S. citizenship and ability to obtain and maintain a DOE Q Clearance.
Preferred Qualifications
• Experience with digital archiving and database management tools.
• Knowledge of DoD/DOE nuclear weapons policies and procedures.
• Background in curriculum development and training delivery.
• Familiarity with classification and declassification processes.
