Job Summary: The Nuclear Weapons Stockpile Historian provides administrative and technical support to the DTRA Nuclear Enterprise Directorate, Nuclear Logistics & Operations Department (NE-NL), specifically the Stockpile Operations Branch (NE-NLOS). This role is critical for maintaining and updating nuclear weapons history databases, researching historical data, and ensuring accurate documentation for DoD’s nuclear stockpile management.
Responsibilities:
Maintain and update nuclear weapons history databases assigned to DoD.
Research and transcribe data from sources such as government records, newspapers, photographs, interviews, and unpublished manuscripts.
Digitize documents, ensuring legibility and accurate filing.
Evaluate, validate, and verify historical data, resolving complex discrepancies.
Generate nuclear history reports and develop training curricula.
Respond to changes in nuclear weapons classification policy.
Prepare documentation for Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) and Congressional responses within 3 business days, ensuring completeness and logical presentation.
Deliver briefings and presentations to senior leadership, ensuring clear communication across multiple levels.
Qualifications:
High school diploma with 4 years of demonstrated experience performing these duties, or BA/BS degree with 6 years of similar experience.
U.S. citizenship and active Top Secret clearance with SCI eligibility at contract award.
Proven experience in historical research, data management, and database maintenance.
Strong analytical skills for evaluating and resolving historical data discrepancies.
Desired Skills:
Familiarity with DoD nuclear weapons policies and classification procedures.
Proficiency in database management tools and digitization processes.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills for briefings and FOIA responses.
Ability to work independently and meet tight deadlines (e.g., 3 business days for FOIA data).
