Nurix’s Technology Development department is seeking an undergraduate intern for May-September (dates flexible). Student must have a strong work ethic and an interest in bettering themselves; in exchange for these attributes, the student will be paid to work alongside accomplished scientists while learning through experimentation in the fields of biochemistry/biophysics/chemical biology/molecular biology. Prior experience in a biochemistry lab is strongly preferred, but we’re willing to teach basic techniques if Covid19 has meant you were denied the development of practical skills (that isn’t your fault, just promise to work hard to get up to speed). A student with interests in protein interactions, binding, and the physics behind nano-scale biology is preferred, but we’re willing to help instill these interests through a summer’s experience and education. Lastly, a student with a strong GPA is slightly preferred, but we’re willing to accept testing is imperfect.Additional qualities that will be considered:a) An inclusive and respectful demeanor.b) An organized nature, or the ability to closely mimic it for a summer.c) Good communicator.d) Open to making and admitting mistakes.e) Interest in learning how to operate laboratory instruments.f) Ability to think analytically, particularly “on your feet” or “off the cuff” (either can be considered as equivalent at the preference of the candidate).g) Ability to roll your “R”s, such as with the word “arroyo” (willing to teach this one).h) Ability to have fun while learning and working.
