Role: Nurse Manager, Labor and Delivery – Location: Seattle, WA Employment Type: Full-Time Shift: Day Shift
Client is seeking an experienced Nurse Manager – Labor and Delivery to oversee clinical and operational leadership for one of the region’s largest and most advanced Labor & Delivery departments.
The Nurse Manager is accountable for the overall management and leadership of Labor & Delivery patient care units, ensuring high-quality patient care delivery, operational excellence, staff development, patient safety, and regulatory compliance in alignment with Swedish Medical Center’s mission and values.
This leader will collaborate closely with the Women & Children leadership team, providers, educators, and multidisciplinary staff to support quality initiatives, DEI programs, staffing operations, and evidence-based maternal care practices.
Department Overview
Labor & Delivery: 30 Labor Beds
OB ED: 9 Beds
OB ORs: 4 Operating Rooms
Births: Approximately 550–600 per Month
Deliveries Starting at 22–23 Weeks Gestation
NICU: Level 4 with 77 Beds
24/7 Anesthesia, Laborist & Neonatology Coverage

Candidate Must-Haves
Active RN License
Labor & Delivery Nursing Experience
L&D Leadership / Charge RN Experience
Women & Children Services Experience
BSN or ADN with BSN Commitment
BLS Certification
Key Responsibilities
Manage overall clinical and operational activities of Labor & Delivery units
Ensure safe, high-quality patient care delivery 24/7
Lead staffing, scheduling, patient flow, and operational efficiency
Monitor patient satisfaction and quality improvement initiatives
Develop and implement unit-based goals and evidence-based practices
Collaborate with interdisciplinary Women & Children leadership teams
Support Diversity, Equity & Inclusion (DEI) initiatives
Conduct staff coaching, mentoring, evaluations, and retention activities
Partner with educators and clinical specialists for staff development
Support recruitment and onboarding of staff RNs and residency/fellowship candidates
Ensure compliance with regulatory, professional, and organizational standards
Participate in grievance handling and employee relations activities
Maintain clinical competence and support bedside care when needed
Required Qualifications
Education
Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) required OR
ADN with commitment to obtain BSN within 2 years of hire
Licensure & Certifications
Active Washington Registered Nurse (RN) License
BLS Certification – American Heart Association
Required Experience
Minimum 3 years recent Labor & Delivery nursing experience
Minimum 2 years Charge RN, Supervisory, or Management experience in Labor & Delivery
Leadership and staff management experience required
