Position Overview
The Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant specializing in Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation (PM&R) provides comprehensive evaluation and management of patients with functional impairments related to musculoskeletal conditions, neurologic injuries, postoperative recovery, and chronic pain disorders. The role focuses on improving mobility, restoring functional independence, and enhancing overall quality of life through coordinated rehabilitation care.
The provider will work collaboratively with supervising physicians, physical and occupational therapists, nursing staff, and other healthcare professionals to develop and implement individualized rehabilitation plans. Responsibilities may include both inpatient consultation services and outpatient rehabilitation clinic care.
Key Responsibilities
Perform comprehensive patient evaluations including history, physical examination, and functional assessments
Develop and manage rehabilitation treatment plans in collaboration with the supervising physician
Provide follow up care and monitor progress for patients with musculoskeletal, neurologic, and functional impairments
Coordinate care with physical therapy, occupational therapy, speech therapy, and nursing teams
Provide rehabilitation consultations in hospitals, inpatient rehabilitation facilities, and skilled nursing facilities
Educate patients and families regarding treatment plans, recovery expectations, and functional goals
Maintain accurate and timely documentation in the electronic medical record in accordance with clinical and regulatory standards
Qualifications
Education Master’s or Doctoral degree from an accredited Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant program
Licensure
Active California NP or PA license
National certification (AANP, ANCC, or NCCPA)
DEA license preferred or required depending on practice setting
Experience
Experience in physical medicine and rehabilitation, orthopedics, neurology, pain management, or rehabilitation medicine preferred
Experience in inpatient rehabilitation or skilled nursing facility settings is a plus
Skills & Competencies
Strong musculoskeletal and neurologic examination skills
Knowledge of rehabilitation medicine principles
Ability to work in a multidisciplinary team environment
Strong documentation and organizational skills
Excellent patient communication and education abilities
Work Environment
This position may involve care in outpatient rehabilitation clinics, inpatient rehabilitation facilities, skilled nursing facilities, and hospital consultation services, with collaboration across multidisciplinary care teams to support patient recovery and functional independence.
