What is the company all about?

Our client is the first recommendation engine powered by machine learning and personality psychology. The technology personalized product feeds by order of personality match between user and product under the Big 5 framework, the most respected psychographic model in psychology. The company is expanding the use of its patent-pending technology for other consumer verticals as a B2B plug-in, as it seeks to be the leader in psychology-based recommendation.

What’s the purpose of this role?

Machine learning is a central component of our client’s technology. They use AI models at scale to update the platform with new products daily, fully personalizing the user experience. Our data pipeline, designed for scalability, is built on the Google Cloud platform. You will maintain, optimize, and construct new models.

As Head of Applied Data Scientist, you will lead and eventually grow the Data Science department; both maintain and improve the ML stack and algorithm to ensure recommendation accuracy on the platform, as well as lead the translation of our tech into the development of a B2B product, along with the wider team. You will work closely with our CEO, CTO, and Chief Architect on influencing business and technical decisions in areas of development and modelling that we identify as critical.

What are the core responsibilities?

• Act as the technical leader for ML and coordinate with the other technology teams to drive architecture and implementation strategies.

• Improve and maintain the machine learning models that form the basis of the products

• Develop clean, documented, and easy to maintain code. Work with the technology team to integrate with the company’s CI/CD pipelines

• Collaborate with leadership to validate and audit that the ML models are delivering the business value expected.

• Assist in the development of an automated platform to test and iterate ML models

• Design experiments and apply statistical inference to provide confidence in models

• Suggest ways to improve the products in line with the companies objectives ? Work with C-level executives to sharpen commercial vision through an AI lens

• Build a high-performing data science team

What are the minimum requirements?

Math, Statistics, and ML

• MSc or above in a quantitative subject

• Able to creatively use AI and ML to solve business problems

• Knowledge of neural nets for images

• Knowledge of NLP

• Knowledge of classical ML and statistics

• Experience building and using machine learning models in a commercial environment

Coding & Software Development

• Experience with the Python data stack (NumPy, Pandas) and machine learning libraries (Tensorflow, PyTorch, Scikit-Learn)

• Deploying ML models in the cloud via REST APIs

• Experience building and deploying data pipelines

• GCP or AWS

• SQL

• Orchestration technologies (Apache Airflow, Cloud Composer is a plus)

• Git

• Python, C++

What type of ML Domain experience is preferred?

• Experience with recommender systems

• Experience working with large diverse internet data sets including images and text
