Game Economy Designer, 100% remote anywhere in the world.
We are looking for a Game Economy Designer to work on an unannounced Battlemech JRPG style game. This game will have a card-like system with rarity levels and complex loot systems for collecting salvaged parts for your battlemechs. This role is at the core of gameplay experience.
The ideal candidate would...
Understand how to design features for players, rather than for designers
Have deep experience and understanding of player psychology as it relates to randomized loot and looter games (PoE, Diablo, Destiny, Borderlands)
Have deep understanding of how game systems interact with and build upon each other to form endgame loops
Have a solid background in mathematics and statistics; we need somebody who can intuitively estimate power creep and call out game-breaking issues
Have experience creating and maintaining power curves
Have strong communication and presentation skills
Have strong convictions, loosely coupled
Core Responsibilities
Collaborate with all design disciplines to create and implement engaging progression systems and game features.
Work with product partners and vision holders to prioritize designs to improve the content and functionality of the game.
Interfaces regularly with multidisciplinary teams support content implementation and iteration.
Own game economies, cash/loot, and player XP systems from concept to release.
Own the game progression systems, leveling, unlocking of mechanics, etc.
Provide mentorship and guidance to other members of the team and design department.
Manage day-to-day functions of the design team including but not limited to scheduling, performance, and quality output.
Basic Qualifications
5+ years of systems design experience with at least 2+ years as a team lead.
Excellent overall communication and documentation skills.
Proven experience designing and owning player progression systems including skill trees, quest rewards, power upgrades and collectibles.
Experience owning, iterating, and tuning game economies, cash/loot, XP, and similar resources.
Proven ability and willingness to communicate effectively at all levels of the organization.
