School Resource Officer

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- The School Resource Officer (SRO) works directly with the Head of School and Operations Director to help provide a safe environment for students, staff and visitors.
- An employee in this position will respond to complaints of losses of personal and school property, Monitor & review the schools CCTV system, assist in the establishment and formal audit of local security and safety procedures, including school’s emergency response plan. The School Resource Officer must relate well while communicating with students, school staff, and the school community.
- Assists with directing foot traffic during school events, parking, loading or unloading of school buses during arrival & dismissal, assist during medical emergencies.
- Assists in the establishment and formal audit of local security and safety procedures including the emergency response plan.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- School Patrols: As the school’s SRO you will conduct patrols of school grounds, to ensure the safety of staff and students. Provide daily reports, looking for & reporting broken fencing, unlocked doors or gates, viewing video and closed- circuit TV security monitors while watching for strangers or suspicious activity in or around campus.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
Security Protocols:
Acts as a mentor and positive adult role-model to students.
Serves on & provides suggestion to the school-based threat assessment team.
Provides student safety and supervisory assistance on school premises.
Assists with and coordinates safety and security training for school-based personnel.
Assists with developing effective school-community relations and in maintaining a human relations climate which promotes a positive school environment.
Serves as liaison between law enforcement, fire safety officials, and school administrators.
EXPERIENCE/EDUCATION:
- Bachelor’s degree from an accredited university or college; or any equivalent
- combination of education, experience, and/or training to demonstrate the standards, concepts and guidelines to perform the responsibilities of the position
- Four years’ experience preferred in supervising school-age children or young adults in any of the following or similar areas: law enforcement, security, juvenile justice system or counseling programs preferred
ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS:
- Knowledge of rules and regulations regarding student safety and conduct preferred, and
- the ability to enforce those regulations.
- Ability to relate to, communicate with students
- Ability to understand and carry out written and oral instructions, and to prepare clear and comprehensive oral and written reports
- Ability to monitor student behavior and deter inappropriate behavior on school grounds
- and property. Valid driver’s license, Concealed Carry a must, First Aid & AED Certified or willing to become certified.
WORKING CONDITIONS:
- Full-time, 8 hours per day, 175 days in the school year (10 - month schedule)
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
- While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to stand, climb, stoop, kneel, bend and walk. The employee is occasionally required to sit and may be required to lift up to approximately 50 pounds.
- Employee must have the ability to drive school provided golf cart and navigate to multiple locations around the school’s campus. An employee in this position will require the ability to be mobile around school hallways and grounds on a daily basis.
