    Forest Carbon Works (www.forestcarbonworks.org), a company which enables small forest landowners in the U.S. to access the carbon offset market, is hiring Regional Foresters to join our team in the Pacific Northwest Region based near Portland, Oregon.

    The Regional Forester’s primary responsibility is to provide professional forestry services to member landowners for carbon project development and long-term forest management.  The Regional Forester is also responsible for recruiting landowners to join Forest Carbon Works and ensuring quality of work among contracted forest technicians.  Related activities vary by season, but may include: meeting with member landowners, completing forest inventory measurements, providing site access to third-party auditors, developing forest management plans, facilitating timber harvest plans in partnership with a consulting forester and meeting with prospective members.

    As the regional point of contact and public representative of Forest Carbon Works, the Regional Forester must be a qualified professional having demonstrated regional experience in forest management. Professional qualifications vary by region and must be obtained within nine months of employment start. Prior experience with forest carbon project development is not required.

    The Regional Forester maintains a home office and is provided a company vehicle for work-related travel.  This position is a permanent appointment starting in 2020.  This is a full-time, salaried position with possible bonuses/commissions.

    Minimum Qualifications

    • Hold an undergraduate or master’s degree in forestry.
    • Possess SAF Certified Forester credentials or the ability to attain certification within six months.

    IDEAL QUALIFICATIONS

    • Five years regional experience in forest management.
    • Experience with forest inventory techniques, including navigating by map, compass and GPS.
    • Familiarity with regional tree species and forest types.
    • Proficient in use of smartphone technology (and experience troubleshooting issues), digital cameras, GPS devices, Microsoft Word and Excel.
    • Have good communication skills, including both oral and written.
    • Able to disseminate directions to others.
    • Have good time-management and self-management skills, and are able to take direction and work independently to reach identified goals on a set timeline.
    • Able to work effectively remotely, not only with stakeholders regionally, but with teammates nationally across all 4 US Time Zones.
    • Are able to maintain a high level of professionalism and discretion in dealing with highly sensitive project deliverables.
    • Have a commitment to solving the environmental challenges of our time.
    • Willing to travel domestically (frequently).
    • Willing to drive to troubleshoot and solve minor technology issues on-the-fly.
    • Possess a valid driver’s license (non-commercial).
    • Able to work effectively with remote team members throughout the U.S.
    • Able and willing to work alone for long field days in rugged terrain.

    PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORK ENVIRONMENT

    • Work is performed at both the office and in the field.
    • Work may require bending, lifting and carrying 40 pounds, operating equipment, stooping and walking over rough, sometimes brushy, terrain.
    • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and the ability to adjust focus.
    • Work is performed in an environment which involves everyday risks or discomforts and sometimes adverse weather conditions.
    • A considerable amount of driving is required.
