    POSITION OVERVIEW:

    POSITION: Career and Social Engagement Coordinator

    REPORTING TO: EDGE Program Director

    LOCATION: Chicago (City)

    JOB SUMMARY:

    Provides education, support and guidance to individual students utilizing a clinically-informed apprenticeship model to assist in the development of effective vocational skills. Assists students in the development of healthy social engagement skills, including the establishment of effective relationships as well as the effective structuring of recreational time.

    PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:

    • Working with students, individually and in groups as appropriate, to assist in the development of effective vocational skills, including resume building and interviewing skills.
    • Establishing relationships with community partners to assist in the development of job shadowing, internships and employment opportunities for students.
    • In collaboration with Therapeutic Life Coach, works to assist in the identification of social and community engagement opportunities for students to further interpersonal development.
    • Plans and leads community outings of a recreational, cultural, or volunteer nature that enrich the lives of the students.
    • Represents the program at training and conference and participants in educating referral sources, prospective students, and other stakeholders about the Program.
    • Perform other duties which may be assigned to support he finances or agency's mission.

    KNOWLEDGE AND SKILL REQUIREMENTS:

    • Understanding of human development with particular insight into adolescent-young adult transition.
    • Strong knowledge of the Chicago area and ability to develop effective relationships with key individuals in other organizations.
    • Ability to communicate effectively (verbally and in written form) with other professionals, students, and parents.
    • The ability to manage time effectively by prioritizing and the skills to successfully complete work and understanding of boundaries.
    • Ability to demonstrate sensitivity to clients', coworkers', and volunteers' socioeconomic and cultural characteristics.
    • Ability to understand, practice, and support the agency values of technical competence, outstanding customer, superior team player, commitment to quality improvement.
    • Valid Drivers' License and proof of insurance.

    EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS:

    • Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in psychology, social work, or related field.

    POSITION MAY REQUIRE THE FOLLOWING PHYSICAL ACTIVITY:

    • Balancing – ordinary locomotion and maintenance of body equilibrium
    • Climbing – ascend or descend ladders, stairs, ramps, and the like using feed and legs and/or hands and arms. Body agility is emphasized.
    • Crawling – move body along the floor on all fours
    • Crouching – bend the body downward and forward by bending leg and spine
    • Fingering – type with the finders, and/or separate pages of documents, etc
    • Grasping – apply pressure to an object with the fingers and palm
    • Hearing – perceiving the nature of sounds at normal speaking levels with or without correction
    • Kneeling – bend legs at knee to come to a rest on knee or knees
    • Lifting – raise objects from a lower to a higher position or moving objects horizontally from position-to-position
    • Pulling – use upper extremities to press against something with steady force in order to draw, haul, or tug objects in a sustained motion
    • Pushing – use upper extremities to press against something with steady force in order to thrust forward, downward, or outward
    • Reaching – extend hand and arm in any direction
    • Repetitive motion – substantial movements of the wrists, hands, and/or fingers
    • Seeing – use visual acuity to determine the accuracy, neatness and thoroughness of the work assigned or to make general observations
    • Sitting – sit for sustained periods of time
    • Standing – stand for sustained periods of time
    • Stooping – bend body downward and forward by bending spine at the waist
    • Talking – expressing or exchanging ideas by means of the spoken word
    • Tasting/Smelling – must be able to detect/distinguish, determine different tastes and smells
    • Walking – move about on foot to accomplish tasks
    • Visual acuity – Must have close visual acuity to perform activities such as, preparing and analyzing data and figures, viewing a computer terminal, extensive reading, filing papers, operating a vehicle, etc

    Must be able to exert in excess of 100 pounds of force occasionally and/or up to 50 pounds of force frequently and/up to 20 pounds of force constantly to move objects.

    Must be able to work in extreme environmental conditions. Activities occur inside and outside. Must be able to tolerate extreme heat and cold. Temperatures above 100 degrees F for periods of more than one hour. (South and Southeastern part of the country).

    Must be able to work any scheduled shift during a 24-hour work day; 7 days per week, as needed, to monitor, training, address issues, or cover specific shift.

    Must be able to travel. Travel varies in frequency and duration.
