Responsibilities
Responsible for developing and implementing strategies to support the efforts to treat and prevent opioid/substance abuse amongst individuals in St. Martin Parish. To help meet the needs of our community, the coordinator will also:
- Creates strategic plans using local level data for parish response related to opioid/substance abuse related activities.
- Coordinate with St. Martin Parish School Board personnel in reference to providing substance abuse prevention education to students.
- Prepare and submit monthly, quarterly, and annual reports on all activities.
- Maintains all records and prepares correspondence related to the program.
- Attend/participate in sheriff's office and community-based events.
- Create and implement a public awareness campaign.
- Develop educational and promotional materials.
- Identify resources and create and implement referral networks for opioid/substance abuse prevention and treatment.
- Develop and maintain professional working relationships and will serve as liaison with Parish and State mental health offices and substance abuse programs.
- Oversee and coordinate documentation/billing regarding contracted counselor services.
- Actively make contact with our community partners on a regular basis (hospitals, physicians, school personnel, community-based organizations, etc.).
- Work closely with the Community Affairs Captain in monitoring follow-ups and quality control of those sheriff's office personnel administering outreach services.
- Provide assistance to our corrections division in overseeing services to incarcerated individuals and those who are seeking assistance upon release for opioid/substance abuse disorders.
- Maintain Program Budget
- Maintain records of all NARCAN Distribution through the St. Martin Parish Sheriff's Office.
- Coordinate services/programs based on data obtained through collaboration with local coroner's office, local EMT service providers, law enforcement, hospitals, and other community providers.
- Attend meetings of, and communicate with, Louisiana Opioid Taskforce.
Job Requirements
Bachelor's Degree with preferred experience in social services, marketing, administration, and/or substance abuse treatment preferred.
- Experience in dealing with individuals with substance abuse disorders and family dynamics of same
- Experience in dealing with individuals with mental health issues
- Extensive knowledge of Louisiana Mental Health Laws
- Demonstrated interest in human services
- Strong oral and written language skills
- Working knowledge of computers
- Proficient in Excel/Microsoft Word
- Self-starter and ability to work independently
- Possess strategic planning and contract negotiation skills

Expectations
Assist in the development and implementation of an opioid/substance abuse program utilizing best practices to meet the needs of our community.
Create a database with all current programs and substance abuse treatment facilities pertaining to opioid prevention/treatment and substance abuse. Continually seek out new programs and agencies and update accordingly.
Prepare a program evaluation to ensure projected goals are reached.
Work in partnership with state and local mental health departments and attend community and statewide meetings as necessary.
Develop educational opioid awareness/substance awareness material
Coordinate calls for service regarding information/referrals
Assesses, identify, and evaluate the needs of individuals who indicate that they may need opioid/substance abuse treatment for themselves or a loved one. This may include, but is not limited to, locating available resources, and educating families/caregivers regarding the best way they can assist in the recovery process. Identify and refer individuals to appropriate comprehensive community resources which may address the individual's additional and ongoing needs.
Provide follow-up with individuals to ensure they carried through with services from the requested referrals.
Work jointly with the St. Martin Parish Substance Abuse Intervention Program Staff consisting of St. Martin Parish Sheriff's Office Crisis Intervention Deputy, School Resource Officers, and Corrections Community Assistance Coordinator.
Assist the Correctional Division with placement of inmates who upon release who are seeking a drug treatment program.
Provide support, including prevention alternatives, to help individuals recover from addiction, modify problem behaviors, and improve their overall mental health.
Assist with referrals for vocational counselors to provide job placement for individuals in recovery who are seeking employment. **

Work Schedule
Hours: 7:00 a.m.-4:30 Monday-Thursday and 7:00 a.m.-11:00 a.m. on Friday
