    Our client is a venture-backed, early stage technology company seeking an experienced Operations expert to join its leadership team and drive commercialization. They are deploying a groundbreaking biomass manufacturing platform to lower the cost and improve the quality of natural ingredients for the food and beverage, animal feed and cosmetics industries. The platform, in addition to driving down costs and improving quality and reliability, could dramatically improve overall sustainability – especially the mitigation of climate change.

    Working with the Massachusetts-based team and reporting to the CEO, the VP of Operations will oversee the development and operation of manufacturing facilities, specifically: site selection, design, operations and staff training and management.

    Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

    • Plan, organize, direct and provide leadership necessary for achieving plant and corporate goals in the areas of Safety, Quality, Labor Relations, Customer Service, and Cost (CPU and Variances).
    • Integrate Client’s patented technologies into an industrial manufacturing setting. Work with R&D and science teams on design, integration and plant-level operations and deployment.
    • Lead responsibility for the successful attainment of Production, Quality and Safety objectives, implementation of corporate policies, and effective utilization of available resources, while ensuring all customer, regulatory and legal requirements are followed.
    • Contribute to the development of the annual budget, performance goals, and operational improvements.
    • Ensure compliance with all legal and regulatory requirements concerning processing, environmental, safety, and working conditions.
    • Responsible for training and development of direct reports.
    • Stay abreast of new technologies and process methodologies associated with the industry, including competitive approaches.
    • Oversee expanding capital installations and integrate new customers and product lines into existing production and distribution
    • Provide leadership for effective employee relations through positive, proactive communication, coaching, training, problem resolution, and follow up.
    • Manage safety programs and procedures to exceed company goals on both leading and lagging indicators.
    • Support continuous improvement and R&D and IP development.

     Education and Experience:

    Bachelor’s degree in Chemical Engineering preferred.

    10-12 years of year’s progressive management experience in a food, beverage or pharma manufacturing environment.

    Industry experience with indoor food production methods preferred.

    Budgeting and planning experience required.

     Skills and Competencies:

    Experience in building and opening a new food manufacturing facility.

    Excellent communication and follow-up skills with a strong drive for continuous improvement.

    Experience in building functional teams.

    Must be eligible to work in the US without sponsorship.
