    Job Description

    POSITION SUMMARY ORTEC is hiring Optimization Engineers for our consulting team in HOUSTON, TX, and ATLANTA, GA. As an Optimization Engineer, you will be responsible for finding creative solutions to challenges faced by some of the most iconic businesses in the world, including Shell, Walmart, Coca-Cola, Procter & Gamble, Heineken, and FedEx. These solutions will be found by introducing Operations Research concepts and building applications within a mathematical solving software, such as AIMMS or GAMS. You will engage with clients to fully understand their business constraints and process flows to make sure the solution that is provided to them will be implemented into their business successfully.

    ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

    · Translate business challenges into mathematical optimization problems (requirement and scope definition).

    · Design, develop, and test tailor-made, optimization-based decision support applications which may require programming in AIMMS, Python, C#, and/or R.

    · Document the mathematical modeling applications that are developed.

    · Develop dashboards, calculations, and reports using visualization tools such as Spotfire.

    · Perform data management in platforms like SQL.

    · Attend regular progress meetings with customers (multiple times a week) face to face or via online meeting software. This may include working on-site.

    · Bachelor’s, Master’s, or PhD Degree in Operations Research, Industrial Engineering, Applied Mathematics, or equivalent required; post-graduate degree or equivalent experience preferred.

    REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES

    · Technical mathematical modeling skills, including skills in linear and integer programming, sensitivity analysis, and solving heuristics.

    · Experience in mathematical programming platforms like AIMMS, GAMS, or Python (Pyomo, gurobipy).

    · Highly focused and results oriented: able to identify goals, set priorities, and resolve issues.

    · Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.

    · Ability to prioritize and complete multiple jobs simultaneously.

    · Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

    · Ability to work well independently and as part of a team.

    · Professional demeanor with excellent customer service skills.

    · Knowledge of statistics, data science, and business analytics.

    · Experience in a client-facing, customer-focused role.
