  • Responsibilities

    MIT Recreation Department, managed by HealthFitness, has a great opportunity for part-time (10-20 hrs/wk) LIFEGUARDS in Cambridge, MA. MIT is proud to host two aquatic facilities which include a 50 meter Olympic-size pool and two six-lane 25-yard pools. PAY RATE WILL BE $14.00/HR. 

     

    EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE AND CERTIFICATIONS:

     

    • Valid Lifeguard Certification from the American Red Cross or YMCA required.
    • CPR/AED for the Professional Rescuer required.
    • Lifeguards must be at least 16 years old.
    • Meet MIT Fitness and Skill standards.
    • Attend lifeguard orientation session.
    • Be dependable, alert and able to interact with people of all ages in a positive manner.
    • Please forward a list of three contacts who will comment on your character.

     

    ALL LIFEGUARDS ARE REQUIRED TO PERFORM A BASIC LIFEGUARD SKILL TEST CONSISTING OF:

    • 500 yard swim.
    • Active, Passive, Submerged rescues.
    • Spinal injury management in shallow and deep water.
    • Other various techniques that were learned during the Lifeguard Training Program.

    • This position will be required to lift up to 80 pounds
    • This position will be required to climb ladders
    • This position will work in hot and cold environments
    • This position requires standing for long periods of time as well as crawling, crouching, bending, and climbing.
