HealthFitness has a rare opportunity for an ASSISTANT FITNESS DIRECTOR, PERFORMANCE AND FITNESS within our campus recreation program located on-campus at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) in CAMBRIDGE, MA. In this position, you will be responsible for the personal training, fitness assessment and multisport programs, equipment maintenance and repair at both fitness centers, and direct delivery of fitness/performance-related wellness content across campus. Other responsibilities include: recruiting, hiring, training, supervising, evaluating and other personnel management duties; responding to patron needs. Assist in the management of facility operations, rentals and special events.
DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Recruit, hire, train, schedule, supervise, evaluate a diverse group of personal trainers.
- Develop and implement policies and procedures for personal training, fitness orientations and fitness assessments and train clients as needed.
- Assist in development and implementation of MIT Recreation policies and procedures.
- Address patron concerns with the highest level of attention, customer service and compassion.
- Assist with the development of annual program and event schedule, goals, and budget forecasts.
- Assist with development and implementation of fitness incentive programs, free/low cost workshops, campus programs, and milestone events.
- Conduct program/event evaluation and assessment through administration of data collection and member feedback tools.
- Update and distribute operational and promotional materials directly related to personal training, fitness asessment and outreach programs.
- Responsible for purchases, security, and inventory of massage and fitness testing equipment.
- Responsible for Zesiger and Wang fitness center equipment inventory including cleaning, record keeping, repair and preventative maintenance, developing proposals on liquidation and purchasing, and management of the equipment preventative maintenance contract.
- Assist in facility coverage at the Zesiger and Wang centers as needed. Assist in week/weekend facility programs and events at both Alumni Pool & Wang Fitness Center and the Zesiger Center.
- Develop agendas and lead quarterly staff meetings for personal trainers.
- Attend and actively contribute in staff meetings for MIT recreation management, fitness team, and individual fitness meetings.
- Other duties as assigned by the Associate Director of Recreation, Programs and Fitness.
EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE & CERTIFICATION QUALIFICATIONS:
REQUIRED:
- Bachelor’s Degree in exercise science, health education, sport management or related discipline.
- Personal Training certification from ACE, AFAA, ACSM, NSCA or NASM.
- Current CPR for Professional Rescuer with AED and First Aid Certification.
- Experience leading group exercise classes.
- Strong knowledge in the area of personal training program development.
- Computer skills including Microsoft Excel, Word and PowerPoint.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills, analytical skills, and quality customer service skills.
PREFERRED:
- Masters Degree in exercise science or related discipline.
- Experience with public speaking/education classes, research and statistics classes.
- 2-5+ years experience in leading a Personal training program and overall fitness center management of personnel and equipment, preferably in a university or similar setting.
- Previous supervisory experience.
- Industry recognized Group Exercise certification.
- Ability to teach a variety of group exercise class formats.
