    The Oakland Chamber of Commerce is seeking a creative, experienced Communications Coordinator to develop and implement an innovative and comprehensive communications strategy. The Communications Coordinator will manage the Chamber's online and digital strategy, including social media and website management. The Communications Coordinator collaborates with Chamber members, advertisers, local media and community stakeholders to distill and communicate stories from about the Oakland Business community to Chamber members as well as articulate and communicate Chamber policy positions to Chamber members, the media and the greater Oakland Community.

    PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

    • Advance the Oakland Chamber's brand and help ensure that branding and messaging are consistent with the digital strategy for all programs.
    • Write, edit, and produce diverse and compelling communication materials and collateral including weekly online blast, social media posts, press releases, flyers, fundraising appeals, brochures and more.
    • Oversee online strategy, including developing and managing dynamic web content for www.oaklandchamber.com.
    • Develop and implement social media functions and strategies; write and edit social media content which include promotions, messaging and content that will increase the brand and visibility.
    • Produce content for Oakland Chamber's campaigns and storytelling needs, including writing and editing content for Oakland Business Review, online newsletter, blog, etc.
    • Work with Program Directors and staff to support media strategies for campaigns and programs.
    • Work effectively and build relationships with external vendors, partners and contractors.
    • Assist with email campaigns to support Chamber programs.
    • Use metrics and establish goals to measure performance of external communication platforms.
    • Maintain branding guidelines, style guide and key messaging documents to ensure consistency in visual and written communications.

    MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

    • Bachelor's degree, preferably in communications, marketing, journalism or related discipline.
    • Five years of marketing/communications experience.
    • Experience in advertising sales
    • Prior experience developing comprehensive communications programs that delineate clear goals and measurable results, including a thorough understanding of branding, strategic communications planning, advocacy and media relations.
    • A proven history of developing and maintaining media relationships that result in targeted coverage of the organization.
    • Experience translating proposals, reports, and interviews into compelling stories that motivate programmatic and funding commitments.
    • Prior experience creating a communications program budget and the demonstrated ability to work within strict budgetary guidelines.
    • Experience producing print publications, including project management, principles of design, print buying and proofing.
    • Experience managing and supervising staff and volunteers.

    SPECIFIC KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, OR ABILITIES DESIRED:

    • Ability to write clearly, persuasively and effectively in a variety of written and electronic formats.
    • Immaculate proofreading and editing skills.
    • Familiarity with social media platforms and other digital tools and an interest in using these tools to drive action and engagement
    • Familiarity with Internet marketing and web strategies, including web analytics and survey analysis.
    • Knowledge of graphics (photo/video) software for print and web publication.
    • Prior experience managing multiple projects with considerable deadline pressure and constantly shifting priorities
    • Experience developing media strategies and pitching reporters
    • Basic proficiency with HTML
    • A good sense of humor and strong interpersonal skills a necessity.
