    POSITION SUMMARY

    Reporting to the Director of Planned Giving, this is a key position within the Development Department and plays an important role in overseeing the day-to-day and overall operations of the Planned Giving team. In conjunction with the Director, helps create and execute the strategic planned giving vision to further Ocean Conservancy’s priorities by helping donors achieve their charitable and financial goals. This position will play a crucial role in the management, administration and strategic direction of the Planned Giving team as it pursues ambitious donor-centric fundraising outcomes.

     

    PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES

    In partnership with the Director, Planned Giving, manage the day-to-day and overall operations of the Planned Giving team, ensuring that the Planned Giving pipeline remains robust. Responsibilities include:

     

    • Administration
      • Budget and Vendor Management:
        • Helps develop, monitor, reproject, and reconcile the Planned Giving expense and revenue budgets.
        • Manages relationship with outside vendors and consultants.
        • Provides reports and documentation to finance for annual audit
      • Charitable Gift Annuity Program:
        • Manages relationship with outside CGA fund administrators and coordinates with Ocean Conservancy finance team.
        • Oversees annual state registration and reporting process.
        • Creates gift proposals and personalized gift annuity illustrations and serves as primary contact for gift annuitants.
      • Estate Administration
        • Develops and maintains a system for tracking all open estates to ensure timely and consistent follow up with estate representatives.
        • Coordinates with Ocean Conservancy finance and legal staff and, when necessary, engages outside counsel.
    • Data and Operations
      • Prepares on-going analysis of the marketing program, including the timing, volume, and types of response to each marketing initiative. Shares findings from individual and side-by-side analysis with marketing team and vendors to inform future projects.
      • Builds out higher-level data analysis to explore under-resourced and over-resourced audiences and identify new audiences for personalized marketing outreach.
      • Ensures data integrity and that critical donor information/contacts/moves are reflected in the CRM.
      • Creates processes to ensure a seamless workflow to move marketing-identified planned gifts leads through the qualification and portfolio assignment process.
      • Ensures timely recording of planned gift inquiries and fulfillment responses and creates accurate key performance indicator (KPI) reports.
    • Asset Gifts

      Partnering with Director:

      • Researches and identifies opportunities to facilitate acceptance of non-cash assets, including real estate, to fund immediate, blended, deferred, and split interest gifts.
      • Serves as resource for planned giving team and across the philanthropy department in evaluating gifts of non-cash assets and reviewing compliance with gift acceptance policies.
      • Reviews and recommends updates to gift acceptance policies.
    • Supervisory
      • Manages lead qualification manager/Donor Engagement Specialist.

     

    REQUIRED SKILLS/QUALIFICATIONS/EXPERIENCE

    • 5 years’ experience in a nonprofit, political or related organization with a successful planned giving or fundraising record.
    • A detailed knowledge of development and planned giving including the basics of administering bequests and managing a charitable gift annuity program.
    • Ability to understand and explain details of complex gifts accurately and clearly.
    • Ability to communicate confidently and effectively with coworkers, program leaders, donors, and prospects; must have especially strong written, verbal and listening skills.
    • Confident, yet sensitive demeanor with the ability to connect with all constituencies and help them connect with Ocean Conservancy’s mission.
    • Familiarity with Raiser’s Edge donor management system preferred.
    • Strong planning skills and ability to prioritize tasks to achieve goals in a timely manner.
    • Strong moral and ethical character and a commitment to conservation.

     

    EDUCATION/TRAINING

    Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience required.
