    POSITION SUMMARY

    The Senior HR Manager  leads both strategic and tactical activities associated with key HR functions including performance management/employee relations, benefits administration, compensation, and the development and implementation of HR policies and procedures. The position supports a population of approximately 115 exempt and non-exempt employees located in multiple states and has supervisory responsibility for one HR staff position.

     

    PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES

    • Manages Ocean Conservancy’s recruiting, staffing and retention activities to facilitate the hiring and retention of highly productive and effective staff at all levels; fosters practices and programs that embrace diversity among applicants and employees.

       

    • Develops and implements Human Resources policies and practices that support a healthy organizational culture; directs the implementation, interpretation and application of policies and practices to ensure consistency throughout the organization.

       

    • Stays abreast of relevant developments and changes in employment law to ensure that Ocean Conservancy policies and practices are up to date and effective for all states in which OC employs staff.

       

    • Resolves sensitive employee relations issues with the goal of promoting a positive work environment characterized by high employee morale.

       

    • Manages the funding of Ocean Conservancy’s employee retirement plans; to include calculating funding amounts and depositing funds on the vendor’s websites. Additional retirement planning duties include annual audit and ERISA non-discriminatory testing as well as the filing of the IRS 5500 form(s).

       

    • In coordination with brokers, vendors and other providers, determines components of, implements and directs employee benefits programs and services; continually assesses the competitiveness of all benefits programs against comparable organizations and market.

       

    • Directs the annual organization-wide performance evaluation process; provides ongoing coaching and counseling to Managers and staff regarding performance management. Makes recommendations to the Executive Team for pay increases based upon organizations’ compensation guidelines.

       

    • Reviews, designs, and administers compensation policies and structure. Recommends compensation strategies to enhance recruitment and retention. Conducts compensation study every 2-3 years.

       

    • Leads organizational communications efforts related to Human Resources messaging, with a particular focus on content development for the organization’s (Fintranet) intranet. Keeps Fintranet HR site up to date with relevant HR information.

       

    • Other duties as assigned by the SVP,People

       

       

      REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

    • 8+ years’ demonstrated success in senior level, hands on HR role.
    • Strong experience in employee recruitment, culture building and retention.
    • Strong proactive understanding of employment laws; ability to research and stay up to date on changes for multiple states.
    • Understanding and previous experience managing self-insured health & welfare plans.
    • Understanding and previous experience managing retirement plans and participating in annual ERISA audits with non-discriminatory testing.
    • Experience working with vendors or internal experts for annual 5500 filing requirements for both the health plan and the retirement plans.
    • An effective project leader who is attentive to details and adheres strictly to deadlines and deliverables.
    • High ethical standards and ability to maintain absolute confidentiality in all employee situations.
    • Strong communication and collaboration skills capable of reaching across organizational hierarchies and structures.
    • Excellent analytical and problem-solving capabilities.
    • Ability to develop and administer realistic budgets; solid understanding of the financial impact of HR programs and services.
    • Proficient personal computer skills to include Excel, and Outlook.
    • Experience with ADP software or similar.
    • Non-profit experience in a similar organizational structure and size a plus. 

       

      EDUCATION:

    • Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business, or closely related discipline.
