    Job Description

    JOB PURPOSE

    At Ocean Media, Analytics plays an integral role in our agency ethos and value proposition to clients.  As such, the Media Analyst will play a key role in driving and supporting customer and agency success.  Under the direction of analytics’ senior management, the ideal candidate will be able to independently answer measurement questions specific to campaign performance and trends and forecasts, across linear TV, streaming, and digital video.  Collaboration with internal media and account teams as well as interaction with client marketing teams is expected. Additionally, the analyst will be expected to learn and leverage proprietary software applications, databases, and dashboards in conjunction with academic and professional analytics training in support of client and internal measurement assignments.

    As the analyst becomes more experienced with the role and industry, he/she will be relied upon to help drive new data initiatives, including participation in the development of new proprietary measurement tools and databases, reassessment of existing processes, and the publication of analytics newsletters and white papers.

    Ideal candidates will be critical thinkers, intellectually curious, eager to contribute solutions to complex questions, detail oriented, quick learners, and self-motivated.  He/She will be experienced enough to pull from a broad analytics library of skills and methodologies and motivated to continue to learn independently and from teammates for the purpose of providing high-level analysis aimed at providing solutions and driving agency and client initiatives.

    ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

    • Oversees the tracking/reporting of client data on a daily, weekly, monthly basis to assess campaign performance and recommend related strategies

      • Proactively seeks opportunities to promote shared data sources to ensure data literacy within the agency and with client teams
        • SME on client databases to lead efforts to answer all client questions related to tracking and performance
        • Comfort in dealing directly with clients is a must – responsible for leading data gathering and performance related conversations with client teams, including Data/Analytics, Marketing, and C-Level representatives
    • Analytical tool ideation

      • Lead efforts to improve data presentation, automation, and analysis
        • Active monitoring of conversations across clients to help build new data sources and shared resources to better address common concerns and questions
    • Active consultation to the account and media teams

      • All questions are analytics questions – actively seek out answers to all questions where answers can be found in data
        • Lead conversations to ensure underlying needs are met rather than answering only the specific question at hand
        • Challenge everything in a constructive manner – do we have the best answer?  Can this be done smarter, more efficiently or more accurately?
        • Set appropriate expectations around deliverables and timelines
    • Provides statistical guidance such as statistical viability on client media tests

      • Thought leadership on proper test setup, construction, monitoring and analysis
        • Consider and organize all factors that could potentially impact the learning outcomes of testing
    • Contribute to growing analytics library

      • Assist in curating case studies, white papers, newsletters and education around analytics and industry topics
        • Let analytics be the bridge that connects separate groups through communication in the form of teaching and knowledge transfer
    • Follows all company health and safety procedures

    • Performs other related duties as required or assigned

    CONTACTS

    The Analyst will participate in internal account and media team meetings to explain recommended views of data analytics.  They will be responsible for coordination between account management, the media department and research to ensure analytical projects are effectively delivered on time. As they gain experience and familiarity with the campaigns, the Analyst will also communicate directly with clients to address key questions and deliver important insights.  Long-term expectation is that the analyst will become a primary resource for client questions on their accounts.

    EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

    EDUCATION

    Bachelor’s degree (B.A. or B.S.) required.  Master’s degree (M.A., M.S., MBA, etc.) preferred.

    EXPERIENCE

    1-3 years related experience required.

    SPECIFIC KNOWLEDGE REQUIRED: 

    Advanced knowledge of concepts and practices with the ability to use in diverse business situations

    The Media Analyst will demonstrate:

    • Knowledge of common statistical principles and methods like statistical significance, p-values, normal distribution, statistical power, and sampling.
    • Knowledge of statistical forecasting approaches like time-series and multi-variate regression with an understanding for concepts like bias, skew, latent variables, controlling for exogenous factors, etc.
    • Exceptional understanding and ability to apply quantitative market research techniques and analytics to solve complex business and marketing challenges
    • Strong skills in communication including presentation skills and ability to persuade others with data in a multifunctional team environment
    • Ability to use data to construct strong narratives that communicate clearly and convincingly
    • Strong abilities to analyze and interpret raw data and make sound recommendations to senior executive teams and clients
    • Intermediate to expert level Excel skills required, familiarity with Tableau, R, and SQL also required
