Job description The primary purpose of this position is to provide administrative and paralegal support for approximately 500 tax cases in the 125th District Court, high dollar tax cases, special litigation cases, and appellate cases, and to maintain and analyze statistical information on litigation workflow for the Houston office. Essential Functions * Assist with the preparation and maintenance of status reports for HISD. * Assist with the preparation and maintenance of statistical information and reports for management regarding litigation workflow in he Houston office. * Attend and assist with hearings and trials in Court. * Assist with the management, and prosecution to judgment, of approximately 500 tax cases in the 125th District Court, and the high dollar tax docket, to judgment. * Receive court scheduling orders and help maintain the attorney's calendar and to-do list. * Review court dockets for deadlines and other scheduled events and help maintain the case to-do list. * Prepare petitions, interventions, citations, motions, orders, judgments, and other documents. * Act as a liaison between the attorneys and other firm employees. * Act as a liaison between outside attorneys and the courts. * Liaise with PRC and DEC regarding title reports. * All other duties as assigned. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities * Must be detailed oriented and able to self-prioritize job responsibilities and work in a high- volume, fast-paced environment. * Must be able to adjust work assignments and volume to match shifting priorities. * Must be able to type and be proficient in Word and Excel and be proficient with work-related computer programs such as DTAX (Oracle), ACT, E-file Texas, and various court's electronic docketing functions. * Must be able to perform basic administrative assistant duties. Requirements * High School Diploma required. * College degree preferred, paralegal certificate preferred and/or prior experience as indicated below. * Prior work experience in a related field (property tax system, legal system, real estate, land title and abstract). Physical Demands and Work Environment * While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit, use hands and fingers to operate office equipment (computer, printer) or other office tools, and reach with hands and arms. * The employee is also required to talk and hear. * The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 10 pounds. * Specific vision abilities include close vision and the ability to adjust focus.
