    POSITION SUMMARY

    As a Community Outreach Specialist you’ll have the unique opportunity to empower restaurants and small businesses to support their local communities during times of crisis. You’ll act as a champion of local food businesses, and specialize in community support through networking with restaurants, food trucks, caterers and more small business owners who act as Food Responders. We’re looking for someone who is outgoing and excited to communicate with small restaurants and entrepreneurs, is passionate and engaged in supporting local community-based activities, and is interested in learning how technology can be applied to effective emergency response. You’ll support our Food Responder program by enabling us to onboard and train our food partners, and allow us to grow to meet the needs presented to us in the future by disasters, such as COVID or wildfires. 

    Your responsibilities include researching relevant businesses online and creating call lists, cold calling and vendor acquisition, data entry and processing onboarding paperwork, and working with Off the Grid team members to improve our onboarding and training processes for Food Responders. You’ll be part of an agile small team and enjoy working in a fast paced environment with a true mission to help support communities in need.

    KEY RESPONSIBILITIES 

    You Are:

    • A STORYTELLER. You have deep empathy and interest supporting local businesses. You’re able to adapt how you communicate to best reach and engage small business owners. You have excellent verbal and written communication skills.

    • PASSIONATE ABOUT FOOD. You are passionate about the food and hospitality industry, and are able to explain concepts in ways that everyday people can understand

    • DATA-ORIENTED. You like working with data and pair that with your passion about supporting local businesses to input required data to enable them to become Local Food Responders.

    • ORGANIZED. You are able to manage highly interdependent projects and keep various work-streams on track to achieve weekly and monthly goals.

    • AMBITIOUS. You are eager to make an impact in local communities. You thrive in a fast-moving, dynamic, hyper-growth environment and are able to operate fluidly between multiple tasks at once.

    • A TEAM PLAYER. You will collaborate with key stakeholders at Off the Grid. You are able to work with a range of disciplines to execute on your work

    You Will

    • Research relevant small business that would be a good fit to become an Off the Grid Food Responder and create call and email lists

    • Perform cold outreach to small businesses to invite them to apply to become an Off the Grid Food Responder

    • Input relevant data into Google Sheets and or Salesforce to manage important information about each business

    • Send emails to small business to invite, confirm or request information from them as it relates to being an Off the Grid Food Responder

    • Review business paperwork such as Health Permits, Seller's Permits, and more to confirm eligibility requirements of becoming an Off the Grid Food Responder

    • Report on weekly metrics compared to goals 

    • Provide insights our recommendations as it relates the results of your outreach to prospective and current Food Responders

    • Must be willing to work flexible hours to contact restaurants and food businesses when most appropriate for them

    • Have the ability to vist restaurants and or small businesses on an adhoc basis as needed

    JOB REQUIREMENTS/QUALIFICATIONS

    To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill and/or ability required. 

    • 2+ years in the Food and Hospitality industry

    • 2+ year of data entry experience

    • Solid knowledge of Excel or Google Sheets, bonus for knowledge

    • Bonus points if experienced with CRM software such as Salesforce or Zendesk 

    • Prior experience in working independently to set and prioritize workload

    It’s not expected that any single candidate would have expertise across all of these areas—we’re looking for candidates that are particularly strong in a few areas, and have some interest and capabilities in others.
