    Job Title : Associate General Counsel

    Job Description :

    The Ohio Patrolmen's Benevolent Association is seeking an Associate General Counsel who will report directly to the General Counsel and Chief Legal Counsel to assist in all aspects of the union's internal legal strategy and representation. The candidate must have a law degree and be an attorney in good standing in Ohio. A minimum of 2 years of law practice is required, and experience representing unions and their members is preferred.

    Responsibilities :

    • Assisting the General Counsel and Chief Legal Counsel in their roles as the union's chief spokesperson and advocate in the labor grievance procedure, including arbitration of both discipline and contract interpretation matters.
    • Drafting comprehensive contract proposals and counter proposals for negotiations.
    • Preparing position statements and other memoranda for interest arbitration, including the State of Ohio's mandatory impasse resolution procedures of fact-finding and conciliation.
    • Representing the union in traditional litigation, mediation, and unfair labor practice proceedings.
    • Processing representation petitions and appearing before both the State Employment Relations Board and the National Labor Relations Board to protect the union's interest.
    • Researching and drafting inter-office memoranda about legal matters that the General Counsel and Chief Legal Counsel are currently facing.

    Qualifications :

    • A law degree and licensed attorney in Ohio.
    • Proficient in legal research using software such as Bloomberg Law.
    • Excellent writing skills.
    • Good public speaking skills are necessary to appear confident in front of hearing officers, arbitrators, and courts.
    • Sound working knowledge of word processing software like Microsoft Word and be able to use Word's redlining and track changes functions to prepare contract documents.
    • Intermediate understanding of Chapter 4117 and the National Labor Relations Act.

    Salary and Benefits :

    • Competitive salary based on experience.

    Work Schedule :

    • 8:30 AM to 4:30 PM at the North Royalton, OH headquarters; however, due to the nature of the work, hours may vary with some after-hours work being necessary.
    • Travel is required and typical. The union represents members all throughout the state. Travel expenses will be covered.

    Career Advancement :

    • Associate General Counsel has the opportunity to advance to a General Counsel position, depending on overall skill progression and development as a labor lawyer.
