    Old Redford Academy is hiring an Academic Dean.

    Old Redford Academy has new leadership, new direction and a new commitment to academic excellence. The academy is a tuition free, Pre-K to 12th grade academy that offers highly qualified teachers, free transportation, one-to-one student technology, an expansive athletic program, and a rigorous curriculum that is both standards based and culturally responsive.

    We are looking for dedicated staff that will allow all students to contribute to classroom learning by sharing and gaining knowledge from each other. The Old Redford Academy’s philosophy is based on early work of Dr. Maria Montessori Method of Teaching which has a focus on educating “the whole child”.     JOB FUNCTION: The Academic Dean supports and develops teacher collective efficacy around instructional practices and using data.

    DISTRICT DESCRIPTION: Old Redford Academy District is a charter district (public school academy) that serves approximately 950 students. Old Redford Academy is located in Detroit, Michigan. The district houses a GSRP Preschool program, elementary school, middle school, 9th grade academy, and high school.

    DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

    Responsibilities under the General Fund:

    • Observe and evaluate teachers, supporting the installation of a high-quality instructional vision in classroom practices

    • Review lesson plans and provide feedback

    • Serve as the stand-in for the Principal in her/his absence

    Responsibilities under Title I:

    • Observe classroom instruction and provide coaching feedback

    • Assist the Principal in coordinating and supervising services and programs

    • Assist the District MTSS Coordinator and Principal with the Multi-Tiered System of Support (MTSS) intervention model; ensure MTSS goals and objectives are met

    • Assist in the development of staff, including professional development opportunities

    • Confidently provide and maintain a safe environment for all students and staff

    • Work with faculty to implement ways to consistently engage students in learning

    • Lead data-driven instruction through the use of the problem-solving and performance management systems

    • Supports teachers in understanding processes and roles in student support and intervention and develops systems and structures to ensure that limited time is spent on reactive student discipline

    • Assist the Principal in the development of an academic vision and strategic plan

    • Takes an active role in investing and mobilizing teachers to achieve the collective goals of the school; owns the implementation of select school priorities in support of the school-wide vision

    • Collaborate with other members of the school leadership team to ensure high-quality implementation of the schools’ educational design, including school culture, standards, assessments, and instructional guidelines

    • Support the monthly instructional support series

    • the aptitude to sustain an effective system of shared leadership and responsibility throughout the school;

    • the commitment to allocating higher percentages of the building budget towards the direct instruction of students and job-embedded, teacher-specific professional development aligned to students' needs.

    PROFESSIONAL QUALIFICATIONS:

    Required: Master’s Degree in Education, and Valid Michigan Administrative Certificate for K-12 Education.

    Preferred: A minimum of 5 successful years of teaching experience. Previous K-12 administrative experience.
