Job Title: Welder-Tier One Department: Metal Shop FLSA Status: Non-Exempt
Summary Welds, cuts, and braze steel/aluminum parts with appropriate welding equipment as specified by blueprints, visual aids, verbal, or other instruction. Develop and retain knowledge to achieve timely, consistent, and accurate performance building Oliver welded components. Continue to expand welding and fabrication proficiency, skills, and knowledge.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following, other duties may be assigned:
• Positions parts in jigs or fixtures on bench or floor, or clamps parts together along layout marks. • Uses tape measure and various measuring tools to accurately mark work pieces and produce to specification. • Selects torch, torch tip, and filler rod, according to welding chart specifications or type and thickness of metal. • Identify and gather the necessary tools and parts for job. • Clean and weld various parts as needed for the task. • Can identify and recognize different parts and components of the machines. • Uses various hand tools needed to fabricate, weld, and assemble parts. • Able to weld aluminum and steel as needed per specifications. • Become proficient in building hoppers, blenders, tilt tubes, springboards, and various other parts per blueprints. • Receive detailed instructions verbally or through blueprints or process sheets to work independently on jobs. • Operate MIG and plasma cutting torch to fabricate specific pieces for industrial machine sub-assembly. • Connects regulator valves and hoses to fuel gas cylinders, and welding torch. • Turns regulator valves to activate flow of gases, lights torch and adjusts gas mixture and pressure, to obtain desired flame. • Holds stinger at proper angle to metal and guides along weld joint, applying filler rod to molten area to form weld. • Examines weld for bead size, penetration, and other specifications. • Repairs broken or cracked metal objects, fills holes, and builds up metal parts. • Lays out, positions, tacks, and finishes weld work pieces and cleans welds appropriately. • Constructs and fastens various parts of industrial machine equipment to specification. • Welds along vertical or overhead weld lines. • Assemble, troubleshoot, weld, inspect and test to ensure proper weld placement and quality. • Will complete task in accordance with engineering, quality, and production standards. • Chips or grinds off excess weld, slag, or spatter insuring both cosmetic and structural requirements are met. • Cleans or degreases parts. • Proper and safe operation of Forklift. • Proper understanding and use of the Kanban system.

Education and/or Experience • High school diploma or general education degree (GED); and one to two years related experience and training; or equivalent combination of education and/or experience. • Minimum 18 years of age.
Required Skills and Abilities • Excellent verbal, written, and other communication skills with proven ability to communicate with team members. • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail. • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. • Competent application of mathematical skills related to units of measure • Strong knowledge and understanding of equipment used in manufacturing; cranes, hoists, hand tools. • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills • Strong leadership and professionalism • Knowledge and experience with Lincoln and Miller Welders
Certificates, Licenses, Registrations • Current Driver's License or State Issued I.D. Card • Forklift Certification (onsite training)
Physical Requirements • Prolonged periods of standing, crouching, kneeling, and walking, in factory. • Must be able to lift 75 lbs. at times. • Manual dexterity to evaluate, manipulate, and modify parts and equipment.
Work Environment • Regular exposure to moving mechanical parts, fumes, or airborne particles. • Moderate noise environment. • This position may require some intermittent travel.
