    Organizational Overview: Empowered Aging is a regional nonprofit serving seniors and families in Alameda, Contra Costa and Solano counties. Empowered Aging is dedicated to ensuring dignity and quality of life for older adults through a variety of community based and congregate living programs. Current programs include; Long-Term Care Ombudsman, Friendly Visiting/Telephone Reassurance, Elder Abuse, Healthcare Career Pathway, Elder Justice Lunch and Learn. Empowered Aging was founded in 1991 and has a long history of advocating and protecting the rights of older and adults with disabilities. After nearly six years of dramatic growth, expanding to serve three counties and deliver multiple programs, Empowered Aging is seeking an innovative and forward-thinking leader to oversee its programming and staff.

    Mission: Empowered Aging empowers individuals and their families as they navigate the aging continuum, through person centered advocacy, education and collaborative leadership.

    Position Overview: Under the direction of, and in concert with, the Program Director, the Community Outreach and Volunteer Manager oversees the coordination and administration of all aspects of volunteer recruitment, retention and engagement across Empowered Aging's service area. In addition to volunteer recruitment and oversight this position is charged with representing Empowered Aging at community events and meetings to share the work and mission of EA and connect with community partners.

    Responsibilities

    Communicates with all departments of the organization to identify available opportunities and needs for volunteers.

    Recruits volunteers using a variety of resources and techniques.

    Gather information about each volunteer's skills, availability, and goals; match volunteers with appropriate opportunities.

    Screens, schedules, coordinates, and assigns volunteers to appropriate departments, supervisors, and/or mentors.

    Regularly communicates with volunteers to ensure placement is a good fit for individuals skills and goals.

    Maintains files, records, applications, and other data concerning volunteer programs.

    Drafts, maintains, and publishes guidelines, best practices, and procedures for volunteer programs.

    Coordinates volunteer recognition and appreciation events and activities.

    Performs other related duties as required.

    Provide primary leadership and represent Empowered Aging at fairs, festivals, schools, corporations, etc. in promoting agency

    Develop and maintain appropriate collateral materials for recruitment of volunteers.

    Serve as the primary point of contact for all requests to volunteer/collaborate including, telephone, voice mail, email, and written requests and ensure a timely response.

    Attends relevant community meetings; participates in relevant councils and committees.

    Schedules outreach presentations in the community and communicates with staff regarding coverage and responsibilities.

    Develops a consistent presentation outline.

    Supports the development of outreach materials and packets.

    Maintains relationships with collaborative partners and cultivates new ones.

    Assists in the coordination of special events including holiday baskets/gifts; donor/partner/volunteer appreciation activities.

    Essential Competencies

    Work effectively and collaboratively with diverse groups of individuals atall organizational levels

    Comfortable making and creating public presentations

    Excellent communication skills both orally and in writing

    Detail oriented

    Ability to work in a fast paced environment for a high energy supervisor

    Demonstrated proficiency in the use of MS Word, Excel and PowerPoint in a PC environment.

    Excellent verbal and written communication skills with exceptional attention to details

    Personal qualities of integrity, credibility, flexibility, compassion, and a commitment to and passion for older adults

    Demonstrated capability to conduct one’s self in a calm and professional demeanor when dealing with the public and/or with difficult situations

    Ability to work well with a diverse group of staff and volunteers

    Willingness to adjust hours to accommodate the needs of the job

    Ability to effectively manage a wide array of tasks, projects, and responsibilities

    Ability to work productively in an unstructured environment with frequent interruptions

    Experience and Education

    A bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university and two years of increasingly responsible experience in the development and coordination of communications, non profit communications and volunteer recruitment.

    Valid California driver’s license as a condition of initial and continued employment. Additionally, must have and maintain an insurable driving record.

    Equivalent combination of education, training and experience will be considered.

    Compensation: $65,000 - $75,000

    Insurance - Health, vision, dental, acupuncture and chiropractic

    Reports To: Program Director

    Schedule: This is a salary exempt position requiring significant time and attention. Expected work hours are M-F 8am-5pm with some evenings and weekends.
