Position Summary
The On-Call/Event Service Staff is a key member of the service team responsible for delivering exceptional guest experiences during private events, member functions, and special gatherings at Common House. This flexible, hospitality-driven role requires professionalism, adaptability, and a passion for creating warm, welcoming environments. Whether assisting with an intimate dinner or a large-scale celebration, the Event Service Staff ensures that service is attentive, seamless, and reflective of the Common House standard.
Core Responsibilities
Guest Experience & Service Excellence
- Provide warm, efficient, and thoughtful service to all guests, ensuring an outstanding dining and event experience.
- Anticipate and respond to guest needs promptly and professionally.
- Greet and interact with members and non-members in a friendly, polished, and engaging way.
- Escort guests as needed and maintain awareness of event flow and guest satisfaction throughout the experience.
- Ensure proper handling of intoxicated guests and report any concerns to management in compliance with liquor license requirements.
- Represent the brand and values of Common House at all times with a positive, solution-oriented attitude.
Event Execution
- Assist in setting, resetting, and clearing tables before, during, and after service according to Common House standards.
- Support a variety of service formats, including plated dinners, buffets, passed hors d'oeuvres, and cocktail-style receptions.
- Participate in the full setup and breakdown of the event, including furniture arrangement, place settings, décor installation, and cleanup.
- Maintain cleanliness and organization in dining, service, and staging areas during and after events.
Product Knowledge
- Demonstrate strong knowledge of classic and contemporary cocktail recipes to ensure consistent beverage quality.
- Maintain up-to-date knowledge of the food and beverage menus, including ingredients, allergens, preparation methods, and local sourcing.
- Provide accurate descriptions of food and beverage items and offer appropriate suggestions when asked.
- Stay informed on VIP guests, member preferences, and special service notes relevant to each event.
- Stay informed of all beverage changes, 86'd items, and seasonal offerings.
Communication & Team Collaboration
- Communicate clearly with the management team and fellow service staff regarding inventory, guest needs, and operational updates.
- Participate in regular service and product knowledge training sessions.
- Support a team-oriented atmosphere by assisting colleagues and contributing to a smooth flow of service during events.
Operational & Sidework Duties
- Follow all assigned opening, shift, and closing checklists to ensure readiness and smooth execution of events.
- Polish and restock silverware, glassware, and other service ware as needed throughout the shift.
- Maintain side stations, beverage stations, and service tools to appropriate par levels.
- Pre-bus, bus, and reset tables with precision and efficiency.
- Serve water and beverages continuously and refill as needed without prompting.
- Follow Common House's order of service protocol and escalate guest concerns to management as needed.
Required Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
- Exceptional customer service and interpersonal skills.
- Strong communication skills with the ability to handle guest interactions with discretion, tact, and diplomacy. Proficiency in beverage preparation, including cocktails, beer, and wine service.
- Familiarity with high-volume service environments and strong multitasking abilities.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills with a focus on hospitality.
- Ability to handle high-pressure situations with composure and efficiency.
- Ability to remain composed and professional in high-pressure, fast-paced environments.
- Basic proficiency with POS systems and ability to follow event service timelines.
- Professional appearance and demeanor appropriate for high-end member events.
Qualifications
- Flexibility to work evenings, weekends, and holidays based on event schedules.
- Physical ability to stand, walk, lift (up to 25 lbs), bend, and carry throughout long shifts in a busy environment.
Compliance & Cleanliness
- Adhere to all sanitation, food safety, and workplace safety protocols in line with OSHA and company policies.
- Follow all liquor license laws and Common House procedures regarding responsible alcohol service.
- Use cleaning supplies and chemicals safely to maintain clean workspaces and guest areas at all times.
- Ensure compliance with all ABC (Alcoholic Beverage Control) laws and uphold these standards among fellow staff.
Additional Expectations
- Arrive on time and in proper uniform with a neat and professional appearance.
- Attend all scheduled pre-shift briefings, training sessions, and meetings as required.
- Remain on-site and available during assigned shifts unless released by a manager.
- Maintain familiarity with Common House services, amenities, and emergency procedures.
- Commitment to company policies and procedures, including emergency protocols, liquor licensing regulations, and food safety standards.
- Flexibility to work irregular hours, including evenings, weekends, and holidays based on event scheduling.
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision while upholding high service standards.
